Hi-

My name is Wendy. Marco was diagnosed with diabetes. We (I) have been reviewing information on your site over the course of the last month. I am very thankful for all of the information here.

It's a lot to take in. Marco has been on insulin for about a month now. I want to do tight regulation. Had some weird stuff with the two weeks of looking at curves; seemed that his BG went down after eating (makes no sense). Ended up doing a bit of a "reset on him" and his quantity of insulin.

I have him on a BG monitor. His numbers have a lot of bounce, then they stay high and flat. He's at 1.25 units of insulin; see's lots of bounce, then settles high.

He use to be a dry food junkie. He's on 1/2 raw and 1/2 canned now.

Just wanted to say hi, and thank you for having this website. Still learning to use the forum and website. The information out here is really appreciated. It's a bit overwelming at first.

All the best-

Marco n Me (Mnm)

Hi Mnm and Marco and welcome!
It's great you are feeding a low carb diet and home testing.
Can you tell us a bit about Marco please?
What type and dose of insulin are you giving?
What type of meter are you using...a human or pet meter?

If you could set up a spreadsheet and enter his numbers it will be much easier to help you. We are data driven here and always look at the SS before helping someone. Here is the link. If you have any trouble setting it up we can help you....just ask
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/

Also if you can set up your signature. It only takes a couple of minutes. It will appear at the bottom of all your posts and we won't have to ask you the same questions again and again.
Go to the top right of the page and under your user name choose signature. Then tell us yours and Marcos name, date of diagnosis, type of insulin and meter, food eaten and any other health issues or meds. Then press save. Done!

Here is another link for new members with useful information

Keep asking us lots of questions, we are very happy to help you.

WELCOME :)
As you have already noticed this IS the best place to help you help Marco. So much information here to absorb and people to help you absorb it!
Glad you found us and again, WELCOME:bighug:

Hi-

Marco is an 11 year old black DSH. He’s the apple of my eye.

Marco had pancreas issues a year and a half ago. In January he was diagnosed as diabetic. He is on Lantus; I just upped him to 1.5 units.

We are using a human Freestyle Libre monitor. He has a sensor attached to him that does the readings. Marco is a very skidding cat that will not tolerate ear pricks. It’s challenging to get insulin in him. He’s so skiddish and attached to me that while at the emergency vet, he would only eat if I fed him (and when he ate he scarfed food) and he refused to use the litter box (choosing to urinate where he lay).

I will get spreadsheets and a signature set up tonight. Thank you-

Hello and welcome to you Wendy and your sugardude Marco.

Looking forward to seeing the "Signature" info, takes about 60 seconds to set up.
You can type in your hourly readings from the Libre to our spreadsheet version. Have you found that?
I suggest starting with the BG readings for the most recent few days, then working backwards.

Libre's are great with fractious or skittish or semi-feral cats or when you go on vacation or have a pet sitter in to take care of your cat, or........................... Lot's of reasons to love them. :)
