Hi guys! I am so glad I found this page as my baby has been diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago after I noticed him drinking excessively. So we have been slowly moving up the insulin dosage trying to get him regulated and have just been told to move up to .5 for his new dose. I was just curious on anyones opinion about why his fructosamine value would have been so high on the last check even after giving him a higher dose compared to the last check that was 4 months ago. Here is what the vet said his results were....

"Bruce does still have an elevated blood glucose, but it is slowly continuing to improve (last time it was 387, this time it is 364), and some glucose is still present in the urine.
The fructosamine value came back from the lab (attached for your records) and is showing "poor" regulation at a value of 533 (last time 447) - this is increased a bit from the previous check. "

Any ideas on what could have caused this? and what would help getting it back down?

Welcome. :) I'm pretty new to the feline diabetes world myself, but the insulin dose you're kitty is on is either too low or his diet is contributing to the high numbers. Regardless, the diabetes isn't being regulated well enough. The members here will request that you fill in your signature with some important information and create a spreadsheet, but they'll be better able to help you with that. :)

What is your kitty eating right now? What kind of insulin is he on? Are you testing glucose at home?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The fructosamine test is just an average of the last few weeks BGs. Some of the BG could have been really high and some really low but unless you are hometesting, you won’t know. So while the fructosamine test is an excellent test to diagnose diabetes in cats, it is not the best test for ongoing care. Hometesting the BG yourself will give you up to the minute results and you can see exactly how well the dose of insulin is managing to keep the BGs in normal range or not. It will also keep your kitty safe and you will be in control of the situation.
It would be helpful if you could fill out the signature please so we can have some information about Bruce.
HELP US HELP YOU has the link to the signature, also the hypo kit and the spreadsheet plus other important information.

HOMETESTING LINKS AND HINTS can help you get started. I would recommend buying a human glucose meter such as the ReliOn Prime meter from Walmart. It is $9 and $17.88 for 100 test strips. You will also need a box of 100 lancets size 26 or 28 gauge and some cotton rounds to hold behind the ear when testing. There is no need to buy a pet meter. They are no better and are much more expensive to run.
