Hi everyone,
I am a new member with a recently diagnosed diabetic, 12 year old cat. I started him on Vetsulin 1 units 2 X day and he’s being given Fancy Feast wet food with the highest protein and lowest carbs I found on the catinfo.org list. So far, after 1 week, his blood sugar after fasting 8 hours was 176. We are hopeful his back leg neuropathy improves and he converts to normal blood sugar levels.

If anyone has suggestions for a once daily, long acting insulin or other reasonable priced wet food, I’d love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Diedra

Welcome! Please remove the 'GA'. That is used when a cat has died, and thankfully, that is not the case here. :) Did you really mean 10 units or was that a typo that should have been 1 unit? A starting dose is normally 1 unit. 10 would be very high.

Cats have fast metabolisms, so insulin has to be given twice a day rather than once.

Welcome! Yes please confirm the dose, as 10u is an extremely high starting dose.
Unfortunately there is no once a day insulin for cats. There are longer lasting insulin’s such as Lantus that are used for kitties, but even that one is twice a day. As far as cheaper foods, Friskies Pate and Nine Lives Meaty Pate are both cheaper than Fancy Feast.

I don’t know how to remove the GA.
