Hello everyone. It’s my first post here and I’m writing in the middle of my night as I’m so concerned for my cat.
My cat was diagnosed with diabetes about two weeks ago. Few days after his ketones went high and he was hospitalised for three days. He was given Lantau one unit twice a day.
after diagnosis had a tough week that included eating less till not at all and diarrhea.
Back from hospitalisation just a week ago he was much more alert and showed some Positive signs of getting back to the personality he has. He started eating more. And he glucose was getting higher. They put on him the LifeStyle button that measures his glucose all the time until we get a pictures of what’s up. With him. Since it was often read ‘high’ the vet suggested increasing to 1.5 units.
It was around 22 or 24 before breakfast but during the day and some time after supper it went to ‘high’ again.
I’m the past two days his back legs become weak again. His energy is still good and he gets up to eat but seeing him tripping in his walk and sitting down to eat after few steps is heart breaking.
Yesterday evening as per the vet’s advice he hot 2 units— and he’s glucose reads just ‘high’. Didn’t even come down after the evening’s shot.
I give him chicken tips mouse that I cook so he’s been eating homemade low cat very moist food.
I don’t know how to read the situation. The vet is a hospital vet so difficult to reach. We don’t really have a local vet. As per my understanding it’s really not good that his glucose stays high for so long. I’d love to make sure I give him the best treatment and best chances to get into remission.
any advice would be hopeful. I’ve been in a very steep learning curve about diabetes for the past two week.
Thanks

...I'm sorry you have been sick but it sounds as if your mama is doing a great job helping you get better.
