New member - dosing questions

Hi! New member here.. my name is Paige and my cats name is Trixy, she is about 9 years old and a torti!
I should start by saying Trixy really hasnt had many medical issues at all. I take her to yearly check ups (usually no bloodwork) but so far so good until..
Over the past few months i would say she started drinking a ton more water and peeing a lot more, other than that she was her usual self. In January we went to the vet (didnt get bloodwork) she had a good check up and the vet told us next year we can start preventative bloodwork since she would be about 10 y/o (adopted so unsure of age exactly but about 9 right now)
Fast forward to March I went away for a week and it became extremely apparent tbe amount of water because in between pet sitter visits she would lick her bowls dry so when i got home we went straight to the vet for bloodwork - everything came back good except her BG levels
So about a month ago Trixy they told me she was diabetic. Her sugar on the bloodwork was around like 380 - so we started on 1 unit lantus twice a day and made some diet changes to under 5% low carb food. Right now shes eating BFF weruva chicken pates and dr elseys chicken dry food
Her numbers are okay but i was hoping to break into the 100s since we didnt start off too high to begin with
She was also about 14lbs in January and then 12 in March
We upped her dose a few weeks ago and i think its time for another dose change
I've been getting great advice from a feline diabetes facebook group but wanted to post here as well - the group even had these spreadsheets
Sorry for the long post and thank you for your time https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZXBENDXjNghiaDalGsSFnJui_IPSxW9iVLhWDP8D9-I/edit

Hi Paige and Trixie and welcome to the forum. Trish is gorgeous! I love torties.
That is great you are home testing the BG and feeding a low carb diet.
The SS you are using is from another Facebook page and sometimes crashes here.
Would you be happy if I got @Bandit's Mom to change it over to our SS?

Looking at your SS I’d like to make a couple of comments .....
I would strongly recommend you test before every shot to ensure it is safe to give the insulin.
I would also recommend you get in at least One test in during the pm cycle as cats often drop lower at night and the pm cycle is just as important as far as information goes as the am cycle. I would try and get into the habit of getting a before bed test in every night...and if the before bed test is lower than the preshot BG, I would set the alarm and get up and test again later to keep Trish safe.
also at least one test in during the am cycle if you can would be great....I know it can be hard if you work!

It is looking as if you may need to increase the dose but first I think if you could get some night time tests in before we confirm that. Do you think that is possible?

Can you tell us if you are giving snacks during the day and evening as well as the preshot meals?
We have two dosing methods here but as you are feeding some dry, you will need to follow the Start Low Go Slow method (SLGS)
Here is a link to dosing methods
https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...-low-go-slow-slgs-tight-regulation-tr.210110/

Also if you could set up your signature, that would be really helpful as we look at that and the SS whenever we help you.
You will find how to set it up within this link which also has other useful information

Ask as many questions as you like, we are very happy to help you.

Hi and welcome. I had a tortie and love them! Such personality! I tried to look at your ss but it’s one that another group, probably on Facebook, copied from us. It disappears on an iPad. Would you please start one of ours?

Hi Elise....I’ve asked Bhooma if she could do a swap over of the SS to our one. She has seen the tag but may not have been able to contact Paige yet.

Hello, yes if someone would help me switch my spreadsheet over to your format that would be great. Not sure why it acts weird for you all but I access it on my iphone and have no issues, so that is strange
Trixy is being fed twice a day. Around 6:15/6:30AM she gets one full 2.8oz can of wet food and about 1/8 cup of dr elseys dry chicken
Then the same in the evening around 6:15/6:30PM
During the week I work from 7:30AM til about 4:30PM so i cannot do any testing during the day - however, i could start doing a pre bed test the next few days and update that information here for you all
For treats or snacks I am giving her the fancy feast purley natural hand flaked tuna or salmon and then the wellness kittles tuna&cranberry
Trixy eats well and shes still peeing a significant amount. Some days her water intake is way less than others but still a decent amount of peeing
Sometimes I do try to leave out a lunch time wet food snack in a timed feeder while I am at work but more times than not it seems she only takes a few bites and leaves it there - so I havent really been doing that too much - thanks!!
