Ok what I'd like to do then is keep the 0.1U as long as we possibly can. My preference, assuming you can continue to test as often as you are, is to follow the MPM method with reductions below 50. If he starts to near that on the 0.1U dose, we will play with carbs again to help keep him afloat and on insulin.

@Bron and Sheba (GA) I have not been able to test for ketones since 11/9- busy season at work, but I'll work on being more on top of that!

@FrostD Sounds good! I will continue to have him on the 0.1U with low carb food, unless he goes under 50 (at which point, I will post on here to ask for advice). What recommendations do you have for higher low carb food (so I can buy to have at home)?

Hi everyone,

I took Tanner to the vet to recheck his bloodwork. All of his values are normal! The vet also looked at the spreadsheet and said I could start taking him off insulin, as long as I am checking his BG regularly (as well as ketones).
He has been off insulin since 12/31/2022 and his values have been great. What do you think? Any feedback? I still have the insulin so I can definitely get him back on it if you think that is the best idea. If he is in remission... what do I do as far as care goes? He will continue to eat the Friskies pate.

Thank you in advance- you have been an immense help to Tanner and myself :)

Hi Karla and Tanner.
I’m sorry but I disagree with your vet. Tanner is doing really well but he is not quite ready to come off insulin yet. To get a strong remission you need him to be in all green for at least a week the do an OTJ trial where you trial no insulin for 2 weeks and the BGs need to be mostly all green .
If I were you I would go back on 0.1 units and stay on that until he has been all green for a week. Then reduce the dose to a drop and stay on that until all green for a week. Then try the OTJ trial.
If you go off insulin too soon, remission won’t last and it is so much harder the second time around d to get them off insulin.

I’ll tag @FrostD to give an opinion too.

2023 spreadsheet is under "template." I'll need to figure out how to set a new one up.

This will tell you how to set it up , but if you need help I can tag a member for you to do it for you

Then be sure to move it to the left so it's the first one that comes up

move your 2023 tab to the left so when members open it , it's the first one we see thank you :cat:

Here is the post about it

I am not quite sure what to recommend, as there weren't many midcycle tests at 0.1U.

As Bron said, as much time in green - ideally all green - is best for a strong remission. But if 0.1U was taking him too low midcycle, then you don't have much choice (aside from perhaps a drop dose).

What is your schedule like? Are you able to get midcycle tests or no?

@Bron and Sheba (GA) @FrostD Thank you for the information!
We started him back on the insulin this morning and checked his BG every two hours until +6 (today is my day off). When we are working, we can get midcycle tests done after his PM insulin shot.
We will start to be more consistent with midcycle tests. We definitely want a strong remission for him.
