It's me from FB. :) I'm in Canada (and back from work).

I spoke to a vet at my clinic and he said 0.5U, unless it's below 8, is the right call.

It's true that I would prefer she wasn't diabetic, but if she's going to get sick, at least it's something that I can treat—and find support for. Thanks for the advice this morning and the warm welcome.

I feel the exact same way.
And it does get easier, I promise.

Welcome. That was definitely way too big an increase and too soon. The depot needs 7 days to build and to double the dose is way too aggressive. What are you feeding him?

Time for my nightly update! She's now up to 33.8. But the vet said 0.5, and after what happened yesterday, I don't want to overdose her. Also she just scarfed down a ton of food.

It's not unusual for cats to go high after dipping low. I think 0.5 units is a good idea for now. I'm sure others will chime in soon too.

Okay, cool.

I'm trying to transition her to more canned, but alas she is a cat who loves dry and hates canned, so right now a mixture of the dry Purina diabetes food and Wellness. It seems to have made a big difference even with the dry.

Ok. In that case if you choose to follow one of our dosing methods it would be SLGS. You will hold the dose for 7 days unless a drop under 90. When that happens you reduce. The food change will help but the Purina dry is high carb. There are a couple of dry foods that are low carb but if you make the transition to all wet you have a better chance at remission.

Thanks. I will do my best to get her off the dry, but she's a really picky eater.

It’s okay. Take your time. Some use Young Again or Dr. Elsey’s but even though low carb we find when off all it, it really helps.

Hello, waving at you from BC. :)

Note, the Young Again is not available in Canada. Dr. Elsey's you can get from Petsmart, maybe elsewhere too. A better choice for any cat is all wet or raw. Here are some tips on how to transition from dry to wet.
