Ella and Masha

Hello everyone
My name is Ella and my baby girl is Masha
She's tiny and my other two are 17lbs. She had anesthesia in March where her glucose was high and I brought her for a full blood panel test last week where her glucose was 322. She was urinating on my new couch, which is now explained. We have started Glipizide yesterday and going for a check up in 2 weeks.
I'm very new to this but wanted to share some info of what I've done/learned so far.
- Bought KetoStix from Target.
- Did some scientific research for Glipizide. Found 28 out of 50 cats diabetes worsened via gov site research article, but it's a good medicine to start with short term.
- Switched to Royal Canin GlycoBalance as well as planning to try these if no results are seen: Tiki Cat, Fancy Feast NATURALS (economic choice) , Against The Grain (no pumpkin), Fussie Cat.
- Bought a pH stick to monitor any urine abnormalities. (more for UTI/infection tracking)
- Bought litter that also tracks urine abnormalities.
- Bought Dr.Elseys to try to stop the new couch urination.
- Found home made cat food and learned just meat is not enough. Cats need supplements such as calcium which comes from the bones of the meat, etc. Also found out if choosing to make at home food or switching to low carb food its essential to monitor glucose levels as the kitty may go into hypoglycemia.
I'm overall worried for her, hopeful and grateful to this site and public research. I have a fear that I could wake up and she may be gone but I'm here fighting strong.
All together I have 3 kitties, Fendi, Masha and Barsik. Fendi is the mom of the 2 children. One has diabetes.
Good luck to everyone and the other new members, we're in this together
If someone can recommend which testing device they're using that'd be greatly appreciated. I'm seeing mixed reviews with AlphaTrak and don't mind to invest in a higher quality one as long as its accurate
