Yes, you can do it.
And eventually it usually creates a stronger bond between you and your kitty.

Thank you Dyana! I don't think the bond can be any stronger...my Alfie is 'up my butt' all the time! Ha! 100% momma's boy!

Alfie is 15 yo.
Vet prescribed Insulin Glargine* pen that I draw the insulin from via syringe. I got a 3 mL prefilled pen for $16.33 at Walgreen's through Good RX Gold. The vet was amazed at that price.

You did great! Glargine is a great insulin for cats.

This is a post we refer to as helping us to help you. There's information on setting up your signature and a spreadsheet. The signature gives us some basic information about your cat so we don't keep asking you the same questions over and over again. The spreadsheet is so you can keep track of your cat's blood glucose levels and share that information with us.

Have you started to home test your cat's blood glucose levels? If not, we have lots of information to help you get started.

We strongly encourage that you feed your cat a low carb diet. What are you currently feeding your cat?

I have not yet started home glucose testing, but I will. I have switched all 3 cats to Friskies wet food (low carb pate) with Purina DM crunchies (prescribed by vet) for snacking. I am now reading Purina DM is not the best choice for dry food snacking. Now looking into Tiki, Orijen, Dr. Elsey's, Wysong and Evo. For now, they will finish their bag of Purina DM. For glucose monitor, seems that Relion from Walmart needs the least amount of blood sample. Thanks! I appreciate you all!

Welcome ,you couldn't have found a better group to join..
If it wasn't for the members here giving me their advice I know Tyler wouldn't be in remission for 3 years already ( knock on wood)
Just keep asking questions
Once you start testing Alfie's BG ,if you need help setting up our spreadsheet just ask, we have a member who will help you
In case you want to give it a try here is the link

It will also explain how to use it. It's easy

Most vets will let you return the bag of prescription food for a refund. Just say your cat won't eat it. Canned food can be left out for snacking. Many people use a timed feeder. Or you could look into low carb crunchy air dried raw food.
