Hello!
This is my first post. My cat Pablo was diagnosed this August (22) - he is 12 years old and also has severe feline asthma... he's been on inhaled steroids for 8 years. We really have our hands full, but he is the best cat and we love him! My husband and I have been relying on the vets office for curves, but just recently bought an AlphaTRAX monitoring device. We are still trying to get the hang of it and have not been very successful. We came across a device called ILLUMAVEIN and are wondering if others have used this and what do you think?? We are thinking of buying one in hopes it will help us test Pablo at home.

Thanks!!! I'm so glad this site id here - I have learned a LOT from it. Still feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Is great that you are starting to test at home that will help you and Pablo a lot.

Be patient is kind of hard at the beginning but both you and Pablo will get used to it and more comfortable as time goes by truly, I haven't heard or used the ilumavein and considering the amount of dark hair Babu has in both sides of his ears it probably wouldn't had made a difference, so I learned more by trial and error the approximate area where it was best to prick him and just sticked to it rather than trying to actually see the vein which I was never able to do even with a lot of light, so what I'm trying to say is you will need a lot of practice more than devices. Fortunately cats ears are really not that sensitive and can handle a few pricks just make sure to have some neosporin to put in his ears after

If you want to find the vein, just shine a torch behind the ear. There is no need to buy an expensive device.
You don’t want to hit the vein but go between the edge of the ear and the vein.
You will do much better hometesting the blood glucose your self and be able to keep Pablo safe.

You are definitely not alone. We are here 24/7 if you want to talk, ask questions, cry, laugh or let off steam. This is a very supportive and knowledgeable forum and everyone has or has had a diabetic cat, so understands.
