Hi-
I posted last week when I first joined, and things have gone down hill for Foppa in the past 2 days. I took her to an emergency vet last night and since, she has undergone a lot of testing and things.

The short list:
- liver and kidney function not good, and its not due to the diabetes: it is believed to be either an inflammatory disease of the liver or a lymphoma. (We can't afford to do the biopsy to determine for sure).
- small intestine is thickened.
- probable kidney infection (I'm not totally sure why they can't determine this)
- she will not eat: she's gotten fluids in the past 24 hours, but will not eat. What she does eat she throws up. I've tried syringe feeding her several times as well.

We are unfortunately leaving town tomorrow and cannot change that- but she will go stay with my parents and be cared for there with attempt to feed, subcutaneous fluids and meds.

We are conflicted however what to do- the last thing we want is for her to suffer. And we would hate for something to go dramatically downhill and not be here with her.

Thanks for listening,
Mandy and Foppa

Oh no I am so so so sorry. Sorry your kitty is so sick. Have you tried enticing with some baby food maybe. Things don't sound very good at all. Hope you can find a resolve. Much hugs hearts and hope.

Where are you - State & City? There may be members nearby who can give your folks a hand.

Hello,
I dont' get a chance to post often but have been around here for awhile. I've also had a kitty with liver failure about 1.5 yrs ago. I don't know if any of this will help you.

Did your kitty have an ultrasound? Is that how they saw intestinal thickening?

Have they started your kitty on any Metronidazole and Amoxicillin? Both antibiotics used for Gastrointestinal conditions like this. What about Prednisolone?

Have they started any appetited stimulants? Mirtazapine, cyproheptadine?

I"m sorry if this has already been addressed and I missed it. My Simba was very ill and at one point a vet told us "it was time". He was jaundiced (yellow) and eating next to nothing. We had an ultrasound done and because of what they questionably saw - they were afraid to do a biopsy as they were afraid he would bleed or it would cause more problems. So we went with giving the above mentioned meds and an appetite stimulant and encouraging him to eat (most times the first few days I could only get a 1/2 tsp in every couple hrs) and giving fluids at home - we were able to help Simba. It was a rough couple weeks but slowly and steadily he improved. 1.5 yrs later he is doing very very well. He was 15 yrs old when this happened.

I also joined the feline liver group on yahoo.

I know it could be something terribly different with your kitty but I'm hoping maybe some of the above info may help you or encourage you in this difficult time.

Please if you need more info of what we went thru - please don't hesitate to write me.
