I'm kind of nervous but it looks like we are going 24 hrs with no insulin.

My next question - I have been feeding him 3oz wet 2x/day - between testing and the shot. At about hour 10 he follows me around crying.

Is 6ozs enough food for a 14 lb cat if I am trying to get him to lose weight?

I read yesterday about the strict protocol and really would love to do that with him but...ah, the 12 hour work days.

What strict protocol are you looking at?

Two 3 oz cans daily is most often the amount fed. Have you tried adding warm water and making a gravy? Sometimes they think it "feels" like they are eating more.

^^ That one.

I have not thought of the gravy idea, though I will try it. When I got home tonight the poor guy literally climbed my pants. 'Mom. Mom. MOM! You cant miss me! MOOOOM! Fine. HA! Here I am climbing your pants. I will go away if you feed me!'

Butthead.

Good news is his numbers are stabilizing. It was 233 PMPS after nothing this AM.

Very nice numbers. I don't think you'd need to consider TR. He is doing great on a small amount of insulin.

That website is no longer supported by the vet who started the protocol, which was based on a PZI insulin that is no longer available. I don't agree with the TR for ProZinc. One of their ideas are that cats can't hypo on wet low carb food (not true). We are big on treating every cat with their particular patterns and levels; YDC has one scale that is supposed to work for every cat. Shooting too often can result in bouncing all over and can be dangerous. Just MHO.

I think Manny is doing well. As Sue said, we don't really agree with YDC and the TR protocol. I think it can be dangerous to follow that particular plan...and Manny is already doing very well.

We are 36 hours into no shot territory. Anything special I should be doing? (I am GLAD I am testing at home and not just blindly giving 2u twice a day!!)

Wow! Me too. I like your doses when you get a shootable preshot. I think, at this point, it makes sense to shoot a preshot with the small dose when you can and skip the low ones. It's nice that he doesn't jump up into high levels with a skip (amp it jinx). I hope he continues. Last night was lovely!

Maybe, if you are going to keep the same vet, take your spreadsheet in sometime and show him. And tell him that - "Shooting blindly could have been deadly for my cat. Maybe you could suggest home testing for patients who want to try it?" It would be a way to pay it forward for future diabetic cats he sees.

My vet was, for sure, not the best. There was no going over things with me. They showed hubby how to give injection and the rest was up to me to figure out. I wont be going back.

Another day of no shots. I could get used to this ;) .
