Joined a couple weeks ago but haven't gotten to post before now (ALOT going on around here). I haven't entered anything besides the date into the ss...altho I am writing it down. Hopefully I'll get to enter the #'s soon. I'm so emotionally worn out that it's taking a toll on me physically.

I hope this is ok (if not, sorry) but I'm wondering if it's possible for anyone reading this to post my wish everywhere & anywhere possible. It's for diabetic supplies for Spaz. I'd really appreciate it. Spaz's Wish Link

Any questions, comments, etc, etc please don't hesitate to let me know. Glad to be part of this awesome forum! Hugs, Kelly & Spaz. :-)

Yeah what insulin are you using? Hobbs was on Lantus which was ~$115-$120 and lasts about 6 months if you don't shake it and keep it in the fridge. Also, what food do you have him on? If you're feeding the vet Rx foods, there are better and cheaper options available.

Hi & thanks for replying! Spaz is on Lantus insulin & ReliOn insulin syringes. For the food, I'm feeding Special Kitty, 9-Lives, or Friskies canned food. Can't afford the vet kind at all. So overwhelmed by it all and not really being able to afford the stuff. Not going to go into my whole sob story...unless someone REALLY wants to hear it, then I'll spill. ;) Hugs, Kelly & Spaz

Check in Supply Closet for offers of supplies.

Our shopping partner, ADW, at the shopping link above has very reasonable prices.

Have the vet write for the Lantus pens, not vials, to extend the life. A pen has 300 units in it which may last 150 days if on 1 unit, twice daily. Some pharmacies (ex Sam's Club or hospital) may be willing to sell 1 pen at a time.

Watch Craigslist for Lantus, and ask where it was stored and how handled (refrigerated, never rolled or shaken), plus the expiration date.

You're doing fine with the over thhe counter, low carb foods. Cat Info explains why and provides a list of some foods. Friskies Turkey and Giblet is one I used a lot!

Sometimes hospital pharmacies will split a pack of pens up and sell them individually--I would call around and ask if anyone will do this until you can afford a whole pack. The pens are more expensive up front, but far more economical in the long run. I've also heard tell of Costco, Walmart, or Sam's Club selling individual pens sometimes, but that could vary from store to store.

Thanks for all the replies & suggestions. I'll look into checking out all the suggestions. I do like the pens better also. Hugs, Kelly & Spaz :-) cat_pet_icon
