Hi, I'm Debbie, mom to a 7 year old calico, diagnosed about a month ago with Diabetes. It was caused by the pred that she's on for her IBD, Pancreatitis. She has a specialist, is on 1 unit of insulin, but her glucose levels are very high. I am waiting for her newest vet [number 3 in the year I've owned her] to open. I did a series of blood glucose yesterday and the highest reading was 24.3 six hours after insulin, 17.3 18 hrs after insulin. But since about 6 P.M yesterday she has been so sleepy I'm just so scared. Insulin went in fine this morning, have a call to her specialist already, but she was sick last night- lost her supper just before her reading. She did eat, but has switched her wet four times now. I think she is having a pancreatitis flare too, she won't eat her dry hypo allergenic food but will eat her diabetic dry. She is grossly overweight, went from 5.6 kg when I got her to 6.46 since she started pred for the stomach issues in November. I'm so scared and overwhelmed. I lost two kitties in 3 years before her, the last one to bone marrow cancer which stressed out his heart and caused acute myocardio something. Thank you

Welcome! Autumn is a pretty name for a calico. Mine is Willow. I can understand why you are scared and overwhelmed, but you will get a lot of support and advice here. If you post your specific questions/concerns on the main health forum, they will get more attention there.

Welcome Debbi and Autumn I am new too it is quite scary but I think routine will be the life saver. I started Kitiara on diabetic Royal Canin and transitioning to wet food. But i am very realived that she hasn't been sick after eating the first full bag. Still a lot of drinking ad peeinng though (sory for being graphic).

Very pretty kitty. Several of us have dealt with IBD and pancreatitis. Jones being one of them! The pred did cause his FD dx as well.


Do you have any cerenia that you can use? It helps with the nausea that can be associated with IBD/p-titis.


What insulin are you using?

Hi Tracey thanks so much for asking and getting involved it´s really nice of you. I am using the levemir flexpen and give her shots every 12 hrs. Fortunately she does not have pancreatitis. Is Jones' over or is he still dealing with it? Fortunately I don't think i will need cerenia or any antiemetic (is that the word in English?) because whe completely stopped vomiting (fingers crossed!). Which insulin do you use?

By the way, is Jones on a wet food diet? Do you home cook or buy commercial brands?

And..sorry but What does de FD dx acronym stand for?

Hi Tracey and Debbie I completely hijacked your conversation in my previous post. I actually thought Tracey was asking me. My only excuse is that I was exhausted and quite literally did not follow the thread. And Debbie I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. I also realized that Kitiara was ill when she couldn't keep her food. and then when I got the diagnosis I really panicked and I am no over that panick yet. Literally every time she takes a nap I check if she is still breathing and I do the same before I go to bed. I feel for you and Autumn I really do. But there are lots of nice people in the forum willing to share their collective knowledge. I hope you've found a good support group in the forum and that Autumn gets better.
