New food Pet Fresh???

Magellan has been on canned now for just over a month the only real changes have been the weather (very hot) and this new kibble/food i tried him on a bit. Fresh pet it looks promising as it says fiber 2.0% . Crude protein min 18.0% fat min 10.0% fiber max 2.0% moisture Max 65.0% Taurine min .05. What do you think??? Could this be the issue with is tummy??
 
What's the carb amount? That's what you need to be more concerned about unless your cat has other issues like kidney disease.

You want to aim for carbs in canned/wet food to be uner 8%.

No, fiber is not the same as carbs.

There's a great chart that tells you the carb amount for each canned food at http://www.catinfo.org/docs/FoodChartPublic9-22-12.pdf Some great low carb choices are Fancy Feast Classics, certain Friskies pate, Evo and Wellness Chicken (grain-free).

What kind of tummy issues does your cat have?

Ok I have also contacted to company for information of the food holds breath. Mostly really stinky custard like stools
 
Fresh Pet is on the list in the link I gave you above. The third column is the carb column. Scroll down to raw foods and you'll see it.

Trying a different food may help resolve the tummy issues. Plain canned pumpkin might help. It would be a good idea to contact your vet and see if you should bring in a stool sample if the issue continues.

Hi Julia - not sure if you have ever seen this site but it looks like a decent calculator for carbs. Your food comes back as low carb but I had to guess at the Ash content (typical I've found is 3% but if it's lower than that, then the carbs go way up - see pics below). Personally I would want to see the moisture content a bit higher but I just hopped over to the link Cat Ma supplied and it does say you can improve it simply by adding water to it.

I have yet to see a cat food that lists the carbohydrates. Good clues are contents even if you don't want to key in the values from the can. If you see wheat, wheat gluten or corn, stay away! If you see "pea protein" or "potatoes" or any vegetable matter (they like to fool you by saying "Grain Free" but that doesn't always mean "Low Carb") then it's probably higher in carbs than you would like.

The link I gave above is a comprehensive list listing the total carbohydrates for each canned and raw food plus some freeze dried food as reported by cat food companies. Some Fresh Pet in the chart in my link are listed high in carbs; others are lower. It depends on which one Julia Rae bought.

Julia Rae, which one did you purchase?
 
Absolutely Dr Lisa's site is invaluable!

Unfortunately for me there were a lot of foods not on the list or they were foods not available to me in Canada. Plus, formulations can change over the years.

Never hurts to have another tool in the toolbox!
 
Hello just getting on and I got the chicken and beef good thing is I am now going to be giving it to my neighbor whose kitty is not diabetic. Thanks all of you for the tools and love to help me make sure my sugar baby is safe.
