Hello Ladies and Gents,
I want to switch my civvies over to a healthier diet. I have tried since Marco was first diagnosed to switch them to canned and they won't have it.
I tried raw food and if they ate it, vomit was everywhere. OR they simply wouldn't eat it.
Have you read Dr. Lisa's tips on how to transition to canned food?
http://catinfo.org/docs/Tips%20for%20Tr ... -14-11.pdf You need to have lots of patience with your cats no matter how frustrating it may be. Some stubborn cats may take months to accept anything other than dry food. Try different canned food textures, flavors, brands, etc. And try sprinking treats on top to make it more appealing. The tips also apply to raw food.
My rescue cat would not eat anything but dry food at first. I got her eating canned food by sprinkling crushed up freeze dried raw on top. That took a few days. Then I used the same method to transition her to raw food. Getting her completely onto raw food took about a week.
What brands of raw food have you tried?
Stella and Chewy's is supposedly very palatable to cats. Mine don't care much for the frozen raw, though. They do like the freeze dried raw. My cats prefer Nature's Variety frozen raw. One cat used to like
Primal Pet but now won't eat it because he's too finicky
Have you tried making your own raw food using a recipie? Or adding a pre-mix (such as
TC Intincts) to your own store bought raw meat?
Another healthier option to dry food is
The Honest Kitchen's Prowl. It's dehydrated raw food. You mix the powder with water and let sit for 5 minutes to rehydrate before feeding. My cats like it pretty soupy which is good because they get extra water into their bodies  I used Janet's food calculator and found that Prowl has 14% carbs, which is pretty ok. If your diabetic cat eats it, you won't see a huge spike in bg levels like you would it if was dry food. You can sprinkle the dry Prowl on canned or raw food to make it tasty.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the healthiest dry food there is? They eat, yet always seem to be hungry.
Has anyone tried the Innova EVO Cat & Kitten, it's supposed to be low carb.
As Dr. Lisa would say, it's more than just about the carbs. Dry food lacks water which is essential to any living thing. Cats who don't get enough water through the diet are always dehydrated and don't drink enough from a bowl to satisfy their needs.
My two cents
