New Diabetic low carb wetfood?

My vet recommended Hills M/D and W/D wet food for my 18.6 pound senior cat diagnosed with Diabetes yesterday. After reading the forum I understand it may not be low carb. How can I tell how many carbs are in this prescription food in order to compare it to other options? Does anyone know if the Purely Fancy Feast is low carb or is it just certain classic versions. I am very confused and according to everything I have read it is better to start this new diet BEFORE starting insulin next week:(.

The Purely Fancy Feast is one food we're using here...from the Guaranteed Analysis (GA) alone, the Natural White Meat Chicken and the Natural Tongal Tuna come under the recommended 10%, though I don't know what the as fed values are on any of the flavors yet - which reminds me I need to contact the company. Going by ingredients, most of the contents don't indicate any high carb ingredients, so actual carb count might be lower. The Purely Fancy Feast is a rework of their old Appetizer line, so it is fairly new.

Thank you! I am so confused in all of this because it's so new. I am using the catfood carbohydrate calculator on catnews.org but I am not really sure how accurate that it!

Learning about diet is definitely overwhelming! I'm still learning. What can make it more complicated is when you have multiple cats who don't have the same tastes in food.:( If all of ours were pate lovers, we'd have no problem. However, we have our holdouts, which has me going on a constant search for chunky varieties that are also diabetic-safe AND won't completely bankrupt me. It's not proving to be easy. At the very least, it's not our sugarcat who's the holdout.
 
My boy has always loved chunky food...i now feed him pates and i put some pieces of plain boiled chicken mixed in so it gives the illusion of "chunks" He loves it!!
 
I feed my girl wet only. I give her either Friskies or Fancy Feast...pate only. The sliced or flaked also elevates her sugar. She receives insulin twice daily but is fed four times daily. It took awhile for me to hit on a right schedule for her. Each of our babies is quite unique...what works for one may not work for another. Trial and error will help you to learn what works for your baby. Good luck...Jane and Stewey
