Buddy is diabetic receiving two shots of lantus a day. He also has herpes. I lost my job 5 months ago and am struggling to pay for his insulin. Any advice where I can get help with the cost? Thanks
Hello and welcome. I don't know about help with the cost of insulin, but if you are paying vet fees for glucose testing, you can save money (and look after Buddy) if you do that at home. Have you seen the info about home testing? It's saved me heaps on vet bills. http://felinediabetes.com/bg-home-test.htm
Here is a link to DCIN's website http://fdmb-cin.blogspot.com/(Diabetic Cats In Need) they have a financial assistance program there that you can apply for. There is also IMOM that helps with vetting costs as well..I don't happen to have a link for them handy but you should be able to google it.
The info about DCIN's Financial Assistance Program is here. You can email the information requested there, or ask further questions of me, by emailing me at Venita@dcin.info.
Ask the vet for a prescription for Lantus pens instead of just a vial. A box of 5 pens will last much longer than 1 vial and costs about the same or even sometimes much less. Many here order insulin from Canadian pharmacies and if you shop around online you can compare prices and order from the best one.
