Neuropathy

Misty seems to have some early signs of neuropathy (not walking on toes and walking slowly up stairs at night). Her insulin dose isn’t regulated yet. We are up to 1.5 u twice a day and will increase another .25 from tomorrow. The vet didn’t think zobaline was necessary at this time. It’s hard to source in Australia but I think I found somewhere online who can ship it here, but it will be $50 for one bottle. I don’t know whether to order it or hope that the neuropathy will improve as she gets regulated. Thoughts?

The neuropathy should resolve with regulation, but methyl B12 along with Folic acid can help, and perhaps keep things from getting worse. If Zobaline isn’t available, perhaps you can get those 2 vitamins and mix them in her food. Not sure what’s available in Australia, but be sure that it contains no sugars or artificial ingredients. Maybe @Bron and Sheba (GA) has some ideas

I stopped buying zobaline and started getting methylcobalamin for humans from the Vitacost website on the recommendation of other members. Maybe it’s available to you or maybe you can find some that is. You need folic acid too, to replicate zobaline, but I haven’t bothered to add it.

I want to add that my cat, Jackson, was completely unable to jump and was walking on his hocks when I adopted him in April. Now he’s almost totally on his toes like a normal cat and can jump to moderate heights, the bed and sofa, etc.

Regulating blood sugar might be enough to reverse the neuropathy but I wanted to do all I could, so he gets the vitamins too. My vet said they are good for him in any case. Good luck with your pretty kitty!

Hi I use the exact same thing as you do, the Zobaline price is ridiculous.

Hi Rowena and Misty and welcome. Great to see another Aussie!
Waving to you from Sydney.
When Sheba had neuropathy I ordered Zobaline from overseas. There's are other Methyl B12 tablets available but you have to make sure that they don't have additives added that can harm Misty or interfere with FD such as sugary additives.
If I were you I would start the Methyl B 12 before it gets worse.
