this is probably a stupid question, but thats never stopped me before! Haha

Is there any hope of curbing/curing diabetic neuropathy while diabetes poorly regulated?

I ask because despite b12 injections AND zobaline (for a couple months now), mr b still has weak legs. He is still not regulated, though overall i think his numbers are better (its kinda hard to tell because i switched from pet to human meter so i've lost a frame of reference).

Its hard seeing him like this - its not just his back legs though thats where it started back in december. His front paws/"ankles" show signs of weakness as well.
 
there isn't a way to fast track helping the neuropathy....

the zobaline is what makes the real difference - methylcobalamin....

when he gets regulated, and with time... it will catch up...
but it does take 3-4 months for most kitties to improve...... some are faster and some are not....
 
Recovering from neuropathy is a marathon, not a sprint. Jenks had pretty severe symptoms when we started supplementing with Zobaline. It was about 7 months before we started to see significant improvements.

Stick with it. It will get better!
 
The most difficult thing for me when Maximus was first diagnosed was watching him walk. He could take only five steps at a time before lying down. It took a couple months of methyl B12 before he started walking on his toes again, but he still stood on his hocks and his back was humped. That was January/February. It's only been in the past two weeks or so that he walks without the hump and will sometimes stand on his toes. (I had actually stopped B12 as we were getting better regulated on Lantus).

Keep in mind that walking that way for a long time would make changes to the musculature and cause atrophy to the muscles that should be working. Even if the tingly sensation from neuropathy has subsided, it will take a while before the cat develops the correct muscles again. It's really hard to watch, but it will get better. :bighug:

Thanks. Yes it is very hard to watch, and to be doing all i can for him and it not be enough. Very ouchie.
 
when I first got here, someone told me about the vitacost brand.

it is 5000 mcg ( or 5 mg) ...
zobaline is 3 mg

i just emptied the capsules on her food.... it turned the food pink... but she never objected, it had no taste and because it was pink, I could tell that she got it all.
Their body only takes what it needs and they pee out the rest....
it does have a trace of rice flour but my cat was not carb sensitive ...in fact, she did better with a little bit of carb rather than me trying to take her down to
no carb.....

it might make you feel like you are doing more at least, and maybe it would make a difference.....
 
Thank you All! This thread has helped to set my expectations. I watch my Elmo try and walk and it breaks my heart. He was diagnosed on 6/14 started on Novolin then moved to Lantus for last 30 days and on B12 for 21 days. I "want" to see instant results but have come to recognize it is going to take time for him to be able to be a cat again.

For now he'll just have to put up with me spoiling him.

just want to double check that you have methylcobalamin..... not cobalamin ( won't help neuropathy)

and as Elmo's numbers get more and more under 200.... and another month or two of methyl b12 should make a big difference for his legs.
 
He's on zobaline now - 1 in morning and 1 at night. His numbers are going down, but not in the 100's yet consistently. We're working towards the right lantus dosage. He is becoming more consistently under 300 now, which is a win. We just upped to 3u yesterday so we'll see how he does on that, and move from there
 
The vitacost brand is indeed inexpensive. As someone pointed out to me on another thread, Zobaline also contains folic acid to help with absorption.
