Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that Lamont's fur is growing, but upset to hear about the tumor growth. I would be very distressed by that, too. That must be very worrying. I think if I were in your position I'd probably stop the supplement, especially in light of the additional information you posted about oxidation. Saoirse's omega 3 supplement doesn't seem to be having much effect on her fur. The lack of regrowth is really getting to me. :( I did try to give her the Coatex supplement with omega 6, omega 3 and vitamins A & D and for the few days she took it her coat was softer and shinier but unfortunately she doesn't like the taste of it. When she was on it before her Spec fPL was the best it had been since diagnosis. I've put a call in to the manufacturer to see if the capsule version is small enough for her to swallow. I think that she's not eating enough to get all of the vitamins she needs.

Thanks, Mogs. Yes, the tumor growth is VERY upsetting. I'm having to slowly come to terms with it and I don't know how much more time he has. Luckily, he's still eating, going to the bathroom and doesn't seem like he's in pain at all so I'm hoping he has a lot more time.

And I'm sorry to hear about Saoirse. My vet said he wasn't sure if the omega-3 would help with growth and said sometimes, cats never regrow their hair. I suspect (and it's just my gut with no medical or scientific backup to it) that cats that are in diabetic remission aren't really like normal cats so their endocrine system is still a bit messed up. I suspect if Lamont or Saoirse's pancreas was completely regenerated (or normal), the hair might grow back. But that's just my gut thought, no medical basis to it.

Is there any way you can feed Saoirse more food?
 
It's tricky about the food - I need to watch her weight as well.

On the endocrine side, Saoirse has been mildly hypothyroid since March of last year. Our vet advised that this is probably a knock-on effect from the problems with her pancreas, so your suspicions are not groundless scientifically.

I hear you over the worry and I feel for you; I'm in the same boat myself. :bighug:

Have you heard of Mark Peterson? He's a vet who specializes in endocrine disorders. I actually called his office when I originally thought Lamont had hyperthyroidism (turned out it was the diabetes) and they were super friendly. They might have some treatment or suggestions for Saoirse. http://www.drmarkepeterson.com/

Boy, I sure hope Dr.Peterson can help Saoirse. And that video is astounding! Such a difference in only a month's use of Zobaline! AWESOME news on Skittles! WOOT!

Saoirse's labs showed her as being mildly hypothyroid when she was diagnosed last year with renal insufficiency. It coincided with her hair regrowth and depigmentation problems. My vets have dismissed my requests to treat the hypothyroidism on the grounds that it is a knock-on effect from the pancreatitis. In the above blog post, Dr Peterson recommends treating the hypothyroidism - even if it is subclinical - in renal patients. Saoirse meets his criteria for treatment: azotaemia; poor coat condition; spaciness; lethargy; and she'd be gaining weight if she was eating as much as she should for a cat of her size. I am going to ring his clinic to see if he can take a referral from our vets.

I'm so grateful to you; it's the first hopeful avenue for exploration I've seen for a very long time.
