I read some posts from a few years back discussing the use of Neosporin ointment on a diabetic cat's ear after poking, but looking for some current feedback on what most people on the board are using these days. Do you typically dab Neosporin on the ear before or after poking (does it matter either way?), and is the Neosporin with Pain Relief ok to use too (does it help kitty to tolerate ear pokes easier)? Does the Neosporin keep the ear from getting sore? Please share your experience and recommendations. Thanks!!

Good morning Melanie and extra sweet Ninja!

Yes Neosporin w/Pain Relief is still the ointment of choice - the OINTMENT, not the CREME. The creme makes the blood absorb into the hair, the ointment is oil based so helps blood well up also...

Apply a small dab a few minutes before testing.
Wipe off.
Test.
If desired, remove any additional residue with a pet safe cleanser or isopropyl alcohol followed by a good rinse wipe with water.

Yep. :) I dab a little on the ear I'm going to test, prepare everything to test her, then wipe it off then test.
