We went to Publix to pick up the needles , the vet called in 5/16 inch but in the office they gave us 1/2 inch sample needles. Is the longer needle better or is the shorter one ok too? Thanks

I used the 1/2" and the 5/16". Personal preference.
Some do better with the short needle and say less fur shots. Myself I can use either after first time or two you use them you just adjust to the length. Im sure hoping things get better for you and kitty. I have a really hard time with vets because we travel all over and see a different vet all the time. Makes it hard to get good care for Fritz. I hope you can find a good vet that will help and not cost a ton of $.

Thanks, I was worried the meds wouldn't go far enough in with the short needle. The vet tec told me to push the needle all the way until you can't push anymore. Perkins used to be much larger than he is now, he is just 14 pounds and has a lot of skin and fur, but I guess as long I puncture the first layer of skin the meds will get in. I hope you get a good vet to for Fritz. I know God is in control so even if the vet isn't all that good God will work in out in the end. God bless.

I'm new at this site but tomorrow I'm going to change from the 5/16 to 1/2 inch needle. My cat Butter has a very very thick undercoat & on at least one dose I don't think it went through the fur, and of course couldn't give another shot. He also acted like he hadn't gotten it, lethargic & didn't eat much later. I would like to change to a 29 guage needle from the 31 guage I have now. To me, these short thin needles are dinky. I'm afraid they are going to break. Everytime I've used them they come out bent.

Just a thought. You barely have to push the needle in under the skin.
You will bend the needles if your pushing in too far or at the wrong angle.
Either needles work personal preference.

The first 5/16 I pulled out of the package was already bent, I think I might change to.
