Needle gauge?

What needle gauge do you use? I've been using 29G for Orion with U40 insulin. We are switching to U100 and I'm having a hard time finding the same size with 1/2u markings. I can find 30 and 31 and am wondering if that would be too small and make the needle more fragile.

I actually want the reverse: a U40 syringe with 30 or 31g needles! My vet won't prescribe me U100 syringes to use with the Vetsulin he gave me (U40 strength) even though I'm not an idiot and can inject 2.5 U100 units instead of 1 U40 unit.

So....anyone know where I can get U40 syringes with 30 or 31g needles? I can't find any.

As Kris says, give ADW Diabetes a try, they have all sorts of syringes. I use 30 or 31 gauge (U100's) and they're fine, yes, but not too small.

Checked there already, seems that 29g is the smallest you can get a U-40 syringe with on every site I've looked at. :(
I could only find them in 29 gauge, as well. Maybe your vet can find them in another gauge, but I'm not sure anyone even makes them in anything besides 29g.

I'm searching ADW for 29G U100 with 1/2 u markings. It seems I will have to either go with a 31G or give up the 1/2 u markings. I've had trouble with 29G bending on me, and I'm concerned the 31G will be even more prone to this because it's smaller.

The difference between 29 and 31 gauge really is minimal

You can get 30 gauge U100 syringes at WalMart with half unit markings (they also have 31 gauge)

You're going to get an occasional bent needle.....happens to all of us no matter what the gauge ....all you can do is throw it away and start over

I used the short, 6mm, 31G syringes by BD that had 1/2u markings. My vet started me with 1/2 inch 29G needles and my cat wasn't a fan, when I switched to the smaller ones she barely even noticed the poke. I think it was the shorter length that helped, the diameter isn't much different.
I did bend a few of them while drawing it up and trying to flick away the bubbles. But I wasn't being very gentle. I'd rather have a few bend than try to manage without half-unit markings.
This is the two side-by-side, no visible difference in gauge really (top is 29G, bottom in 31G).

I've used 33 gauge syringes but they'll bend if you look at them the wrong way. They're great for a tiny cat, try and get a dozen instead of tossing out a box of 100.

Monojects are almost impossible to find in eastern Canada. They have a much softer feel than BD's, like those fat writing pens as opposed to a Bic. I find them in obscure pharmacies under an inch of dust. I hoard them, currently have 4 boxes of 100 in the house. I know you can find them on Amazon but I once got a counterfeit AC adapter on Amazon that almost burnt the house down. "Hey, where are those fire trucks going? Oh, it's my house."

Funny how folks in the States order stuff from Canada, and folks from Canada order from the States.

And sorry, I had to chuckle at your AC adapter story. You presented it well.

I ordered some U-100 syringes for use with my Vetsulin U-40 insulin after getting am OTC bag of ten U-100 31g syringes to try out. I really really like the shorter needle length and thinner gauge vs the U-40/29g needles. 23% thinner diameter doesn't seem like a minor decrease to me, and I can tell the difference in less resistance on kitty's skin.

Conversion chart is on the fridge. It's not hard. U-40 units / 0.4 = U-100 units.
