Hi guys and gals my Freddie was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and long story short the vet was having me give him two units twice a day without monitoring and bringing him back every two weeks for a glucose curve. After 6 weeks I took him back this past sunday and they said he was at 20 and gave him dextro and kept him for the day. They told me to stop the insulin all together!! They said surprise he is cured! I was so pissed they weren't keeping me informed so I decided to get a monitor at home but its pretty overwhelming trying to get blood. Anyways Tuesday he was at around 69, weds, 60, thursday 49, and today friday 48. He is eating and drinking normally and is playing and running around and seems okay but i don't know if i should be concerned or not. Ive read all over here that different numbers are normal but Im so scared as I work every single day and am gone for ten hours at a time. Im afraid to leave him if something is wrong!! Please Help!

For a cat OFF insulin, normal numbers on a human meter are between 40 to 120 mg/dL, so those numbers, along with normal behavior, mean he is doing terrific!

Technical note: Meters have some inherent lack of precision - many read +/- 20% off what a lab would get.

See my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for some other assessments you may find helpful in evaluating your cat. Several are the the things vets ask when you come in for routine appointments - food and water intake, elimination, and behavior.
