Need some suggestions. bg's down since dental

Hi everyone.

Ive updated Angels ss. could you look at it and give me some suggestions? she has been using less ins. since her dental and tooth pulling. I need to keep her in the blue range though for a while if I can . As she gets sick and wont eat when she is in the green. At least for now.

I am dealing with a .20 to .30 amount. seems to me that 20 insnt enough and 30 is too much?
any help would be appreciated.

I understand about needing to keep them where they're most comfortable. I just wish there was a way to do so, without the red & high pink preshots.

Sometimes all you can do is keep microdosing as you are. You've been doing this dance for 6 months now. Two things come to mind, but I don't know that either would necessarily be options with such a low dose. One is TID dosing - trying to catch the number before it spikes up so high. The other is using Regular insulin. I was VERY reluctant to use it, however, I was at extreme high doses of Levemir at the time, so it was more viable. Kim (kse) had similar numbers with her Kitty, and was able to regulate her well in TID (3 dose/day). But again, you're already barely shooting a "sniff" of insulin, I don't know that it would be very easy to get even LESS in a syringe... not to mention TID is VERY hard to maintain... unless you have no other responsibilities. Most of us can't do it.

So my advice is to keep doing what you're doing... but be prepared to reduce, as the dental can make a HUGE difference in their numbers.

I am wondering why you gave higher carb foods when she was in the blues. I'd stick with your mini dosing, but let her go lower without any intervention. Higher carb foods can mean a jump in the next preshot.

I gave her the higher carb food to avoid her going to much lower. As she was going down. A lot earlier than normal.she gets sick when she goes below 125 or so.
 
Then I think you have to figure the best you can hope for is regulation. If she can't get into the greens, you can't push by manipulating the dose. You might try letting her go lower every so often to see if she becomes acccustomed to the lower ranges.

There is nothing wrong with a well regulated diabetic cat. Most people push for remission, but maybe that isn't an option for you.
 
In the event that the food is spiking her numbers, you may want to spread out mini-meals throughout the cycle, like human diabetics often do.

I have a PetSafe 5 auto-feeder, and can program how often the bowl (w/ 5 compartments) rotates. Grayson gets food ever +2, +4, +6 and +8.
 
Thank you for the help, I do feed her about every 2-3 hrs. Canned foods,I can't leave any out as I have 5 other cats that would love to eat her food.. I am hoping to keep her in the blues ,if I can for a little while then see what happens if I give her 1 or 2 drops more, it's so hard to dose such small amounts.even with the u100 syringes ohmygod_smile
