Need some advice plz

Good morning everyone

We are almost at the end of week one and Bella is doing pretty good. She had one really good day where her BG was 118. However since Thursday she’s been in the low 200s. She definitely is feeling much better than she was last week, almost back to her regular self. She loves the FF pate and no longer needs her higher carb food (yay!)

I do need some help/advice on figuring out a schedule and to see if I’m doing things right.

During the week for work I need to be out the house a little before 8:00 am. In the beginning when we started she wasn’t eating her food much and it was taking her close to over an hour. But over the past few days she’s been finishing her food within 30 mins - definitely progress ☺️. During the week we’re up around 6:45 so we’ve been testing her, feeding her between 6:50-7:00, and giving her insulin by 7:45. On the weekends I do like to sleep in a little (like to 8:00/8:30) but realize that I really can’t do that because it will throw her schedule off. Today we were up at 7:00, checked sugar and she was eating by 7:10, finished by 7:35 and got her shot at 7:40.

How long do I have after she eats to give her insulin? Just in case there are times where she’s not eating within that 30 min time frame.

Also what does everyone do if they need to go out at night or want to make plans and won’t be home at the 12 hr mark?

I give Bella her insulin while she eats, she lets me do anythiung as long as she is eating. It works for us because she usually does not have any issue eating, to the contrary. You want to give her shot as soon as you can after she eats.
As for managing going out, it takes some work. I try to plan in advance if possible, it's difficult when you want to go out spontaneously! Sometimes I come back home to give her her shot if we're not far, we have good friends who live a block away and we have dinner with them sometimes, that makes it easy. If you know in advance, you can move her shot time by 30 mn a day or 15 mn each cycle. That's what I do too when we change time.
I have an automatic feeder, that helps with managing food when we're away.
 
Hi Cecile and Bella your Bella is so cute! Guess I was just waiting for her to eat at least half of her food before giving her insulin just to make sure she had at least a good amount of food. Her going low scares me, I have diabetes and low blood sugar is the worst and makes me feel scared so I can’t imagine how it would make her feel. The good thing is she’s been eating all of her food in a good time so we have been able to give her the insulin within 20-30 mins after she starts eating.

As far as going out I figured we would just have to see what works best. My mom does live close if we ever needed her (once she gets comfortable checking her sugar and giving her insulin) and most of our friends live close as well so we could always stop by to check, feed and give meds.
 
Our life depends on the cat and her glucose numbers. But until the day itself we can not make plans, my cat bounces a lot with insulin then the days that is above 300 you can go out quietly leaving a plate of food now I tell you one thing we do not go out more than 4 hours outside the house .. so we have been 10 months and in the end you get used to .. tbien have the automatic feeder
 
I’m going to look into the automatic feeder. The good thing is my husband works part time and is home at 12:30 the days he works, but for me I work a full day M-F. We do have a camera inside our condo so that we can watch her when we’re not home.
 
Yes the truth is that I have no problem with work schedules to be able to measure glucose and feed .. but it is good that you have an automatic feeder in case you would like to go for a walk ... little by little you will know your cat and you will know a lot about how he reacts delighted to meet you.
