Hi everyone, I am floundering a bit with Rupert's dosage and numbers. He was doing well on 3.2, but I was getting under 200 readings at AMPS, so according to the Prozinc protocol, I lowered the dose a bit. It was a bit confusing during this time, because I seemed to be in a fur shot or rather out the other side shooting fiasco. He was doing well on 3 units, but then started to rise, especially at PMPS, so I went up again. First to 3.1 and today to 3.2. He did throw up a hairball this morning before AMPS and has some loose stools, but that seems better with the pumpkin. So, do I stay with the 3.2 for a few days? Also I am almost out of insulin and maybe he should be on lantus, but I can barely afford the Prozinc. Do you think he will continue to do ok with the Prozinc? Sorry for so many questions, but it is getting to be crunch time with purchasing insulin. Thanks in advance!

I'd stick with the 3.2 for a few cycles. The hair ball can raise the numbers.

He has been on ProZinc for about 6 weeks? Do you get a full vial last time? I am surprised it hasn't lasted longer. The numbers have been erratic and Lantus might give you a flatter cycle. There is just no way to know. But 6 weeks isn't a long time for the insulin and food to start working together. Often it takes a couple months before you see a downward trend.

If you decide to switch there are threads on ordering the Lantus from Canada and how to buy less than a vial.

Ok, I will stick with the 3.2 for now. The vial was full when ordered 10ML received on 7/15. He does have higher doses than some do and there is some left, but not much and I don't want to run out. I hate to switch, just getting a handle on Prozinc protocol! lol Thanks so much for your help and info Sue!

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. My bottle says 10ml too. You are using a little more than 2-3 times more than I am and mine has been lasting me six months so I think that calculates to about 2-3 months for you. Rupert sure is keeping you on your toes!

He sure is Cindi! Maybe Lantus is the way to go, but I sure hate learning a whole new protocol. I barely have the Prozinc down! Plus I like the people in this forum so much, it's a smaller cozier one. But Rupert's getting regulated is the most important thing. Maybe a little more time on Prozinc will do it, as Sue pointed out, it sometimes takes months for everything to start clicking together.

It's a tough call. I think, if he were mine, I might try one more vial of ProZinc...just to see if he needs a little more time. You can always switch to Lantus later if you need to. Just my thoughts though. :)

Thanks Rachel, I am still undecided, but leaning towards Prozinc again. Maybe he just needs more time to get better regulated. Lantus is easier to get and price is about the same now via Canada or buying an individual pen, which seems more pharmacies are doing. Decisions...decisions.....

Hi Lynn, I am going through the same thought process as you. My little guy has been on proZinc since 1-Jul-2015. He was doing great a few weeks ago but now is all over the place. I cannot seem to find a pattern. His AMPs and PMPs are high and then he goes low. It doesn't help that my work schedule has picked up and I cannot test him nearly as often as I had in the past. I will be needing more insulin very soon and I to was thinking about changing him to a depot insulin. It is a tough call. Like you I am leaning toward one more bottle of ProZinc and trying to be patient. I just want him regulated <sigh>.

Same thing here Luann, Rupert is having some nice low numbers, but high at AMPS and PMPS. Wish I had more Prozinc left, so I could see how he does a little longer on it. Such a hard decision! Tick...tick...tick....:nailbiting:

I just bought another bottle of ProZinc. I remember Sue saying it could take up to 4-6 months for them to settle in. I want to give the ProZinc a fair chance. Good luck with whatever you decide.
