Need Prayers for Tiko Tiger--- DKA again **UPDATE BELOW**

My Tiko Tiger has been in the hospital for 3 days now... he had 17 teeth extracted last Tuesday.

Even though he has been off insulin for almost 5 months, the stress of the procedure has thrown him into another round of DKA and pancreatitis.

He hasn't really eaten since Wednesday morning.

He is now running a fever.

His BGs are in the 500s and R isn't doing much to budge them.

Tiko was given to me by my vet (just like my sweet Robbie who left me in January)... his family made him live outside after his FD diagnosis, then decided to PTS. Her staff begged her to call me... so she did. He had a dental with 11 exractions 2 days after I got him, which sent him into his first DKA/asthma/pancreatitis crisis.

I'm going to visit him after work...

It may be for the last time.

Re: Need Prayers for Tiko Tiger--- DKA again **UPDATE BELOW*

Tiko was able to come home Wednesday evening. He definitely started to show some improvement after I was able to see him on Monday-- purred for the first time since he was admitted. Still wasn't eating so he was going to be force-fed on Tuesday, but he ate the food that was given him overnight and nibbled on his breakfast Tuesday, so his vet decided to let him do it on his own.

BGs were still crazy high (upper 500's and too high to read), but the ketone levels were dropping and his demeanor was better. She was also able to cut back on his pain meds (for the pancreatitis) without ill effect. He spent Tuesday starting to be demanding of attention  so his vet knew he was on the upswing!

Since being home, he has steadily improved: appetite getting more normal daily, purring, waiting for me in the morning and when I get home from work, etc. This morning his AMPS was down to 287, which was actually a really good number!

Main thing now is to keep him eating, keep him comfortable, keep his BGs down, and get his weight back up (lost 3 pounds in the past 10 days).

Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes... Tiko and I really appreciate them! dancing_cat

Thank goodness!! And, yes, thank you for the update. That's a great turnaround, and a wonderful AMPS number! Poor Tiko, losing 3 lbs, but we'll keep praying for a continued swift recovery! :-D

So glad to here that Tiko Tiger got to come home! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Sounds like there are going to be frequent feedings in his future to get his weight back up, maybe even some special goodies like a litle plain boiled chicken. Bet he'll be very happy about that.

Re: Need Prayers for Tiko Tiger--- DKA again **UPDATE BELOW*

Yay!

I see something like kitten food in his future (higher protein & fat) to help put weight back on!

It is great news that Tiko Tiger has come home and his BGs are coming back down. We are saying a prayer that he continues to feel better and get better. :YMHUG:
