Need immediate help affording Lantus Solostar insulin

My cat, Punkin, is a 2 month old Type II diabetic. He's currently on 2 units of Lantus Solostar insulin, twice a day. I'm perilously close to the end of the pen the vet gave us and cannot find Lantus Solostar that I can afford. It's the first time I've ever had to shop for insulin and I'm in utter shock at the prices. I'm also finding that all the financial programs I've read up on only serve humans, no pets. Can anyone please help me (quickly) to find Lantus Solostar that I can afford? I don't care if it's in a pen or vial. Thank you very much!!

Where are you located?

Many people purchase their Lantus via mail order from Canada. The most popular place is Mark's Marine Pharmacy. The price is a fraction of the cost here in the US. (FWIW, the evening news aired a piece on people who were bussing to Canada to buy insulin at an affordable price.) Mark's will need you to fax/email them a copy of your prescription.

One option if you are really low is to call around to see if you can purchase an individual pen. Places like the pharmacies at Sam's Club or Costco will allow you to buy medications without a club membership. Some other pharmacies also will sell individual pens. Remember to call your local hospitals' ambulatory pharmacies, as well.
