My civie Beanie is 12 yrs old and in pretty good health.

This morning I noticed her going back and forth to the litter boxes every few minutes and when I checked, there was only a little pea sized amount of urine each time. I did find a little blood in one spot and then later I found some in the bathtub where she must have tried to pee.

Then by about 10am she went in the box and the amount was larger; not her usual size but bigger. She also settled down for her nap and wasn't going as much. I thought maybe that was the end of it.

Tonight about 1 1/2 hrs ago she started going every few minutes again in the box and then she tried to go in the dining room, living room and kitchen. She did go in the kitchen and it was pinkish.

My question: is there anything I can do for her tonight? My vet doesn't have emergency hours anymore, they send the calls to the clinic in another town 30 minutes away. I don't have a car so I can't go there. I also am out of extra money for this month and I know the other clinic is expensive (my vet lets me make monthly payments).

She has finally laid down in her chair and seems to be napping. I guess I won't be able to do anything till I can call my vet Monday a.m. but didn't know if anyone had any ideas to make her more comfortable till then.

I do have half a pain pill (Butorphanol I think) left over from Nessie's dental last week so didn't know if giving her that would help make her feel better.

Guess that is all; I just wanted to know if anyone else had other ideas. Thanks for any help you can give me.

(She has been having a few hairballs with vomitting and some soft poo off and on this week but other than that has been okay.)

Sounds like she has a urinary tract infection (UTI) my guy used to get them a lot when he was younger until we switched his food. You will probably be making a trip to the vet, but I think it should only cost you about $100 to fix her up. Not sure if there is anything you can do right now to make her feel better.

Encourage water drinking (dilutes the bacteria if it's a UTI).

If she cannot pee at all, that's an emergency. But I guess you know that.

I agree, she may have either a UTI or possibly crystals blocking the urinary track. Keep an eye on her and if she can't pee at all, you may need to take her to the emergency vet.

late to post...I have three that do this from time to time...1 is 15+, the other 2 are 18+.

the 18+'s do this ( as you describe) from cystitis...painful spasming usually stress/environment related. I can generally tell right before they start b/c they will have diminished appetite. I treat with buprenex immediately, then run the course until appetites increase and spasming stops. I hold the dose about 2 days after that, then decrease over a week. If I stop cold, the cystitis returns. ( ?)

the 15+ suffers collapsed bladder. Her bouts ( as you describe) have both been related to infection. Unfortunately her fractious nature prevents many treatments, but I am able to get liquid buprenex in her for a day or 2 to calm the spasms and then treat with IntraMuscular Baytril over 7 days. (takes several people to keep her 8 pounds in place long enough to stab the shot in!...then we all run as she chases after us!)

If it were me, having had the experience with the 3 cats several times each,I would make sure that *some* urine was passing and I would give a cat approved pain med as dosed by vet to help with spasms and relax until I could get to vet. Always after I give the bup, the urine passes more and easier. if it didn't I'd be at ER "right now".

Hope you are getting things figured out for her.
