My vet showed me how to give a shot in the neck/shoulder area, by pinching and lifting the skin and making a little pocket, but it doesn't seem to work a lot of the time, and sometimes the insulin ends up in her fur. I'm feeling very frustrated. Can anyone give me any advice on this? Thanks.

I have a suggestion that helped me learn - I no longer use it but it sure helped me. I took a wet cotton ball and slightly wetted the hair where I planned to shoot. I pulled the hair away from the skin giving me easy sight. Maybe it will help...

Is kitty long-haired or short haired?

you may be able to slightly part the hair (especially if a bit damp), possibly with a comb, so you can see where you are injecting.

The steps are 4 Ps:
Pull out a small tent of skin
Push in the needle
Push in the plunger
Pull out the needle

Any place you are able to pull up a tent of skin along the sides and back may be used for injection. We suggest you rotate locations, so no one site becomes irritated.

Are you using the short 5/16 inch long needles or the 1/2 inch long needles? With the short needles, you can stick the entire needle into the tented skin without any fear of hitting msucle or anythng. Try insulin syringes with 5/16 inch needles if you're not already using them. Don't be afraid of sticking the needle into the skin. Your cat really won't feel it at all

Thank you so much! It was her long hair that was getting in the way.
Now, with a wet cotton ball, I can see her skin. You people are great!
