I need help trying to figure out what to do. Smoky lost a lot of weight just prior to his diagnosis of diabetes. He was eating low carb wet food for urinary issues already. (Weruva and BFF) He has severe allergies to chicken, grains, and brewers rice. He was taking allergy drops from April through August.
He was refusing to eat his regular food and his vet at the time suggested waiting two weeks and see if I can get him to eat more. He didn't tell me that I could get a prescription for a pill to increase his appetite and one to treat nausea. So of course he didn't eat much and lost more weight.
I kept calling back about my cat since he was still losing weight, he went from 12 lbs down to 10.5 and then 8.5. I took him back in and they did bloodwork and came back and said he was diabetic. Now I was really mad and upset. I was feeding him that whole time a few teaspoons every few hours just to get him to eat more.
I started going to another place and their vet gave me meds to help his nausea and increase his appetite. He also ran tests to check his liver values and they were a little high. I feel really horrible that I didn't have the bloodwork done sooner. My poor kitty was at home for two weeks with diabetes that was not being treated.
I had switched smoky to FF classics, Nine Lives ground, or Friskies pate. The only problem is that all of these foods have poultry in their ingredients, even the fish or beef flavors. His allergies have returned and he is scratching at his head and neck again. His eyes have started to be runny again as well. I don't know if I can get him to eat the Weruva again or not. He still needs to gain a few more pounds yet. I can start giving him allergy drops again but not sure if that will affect him. The drops are antihistamine not steroid based. I don't want him to lose all his hair again from scratching. Help
