Can anyone tell me what low carb treats I can give my diabetic kitty ?

He just got nine teeth pulled out yesterday; therefore I don't know what type of treats to give him. The vet said he actually does not have many teeth left. I have not given him any treats since he was diagnosed on 4/25/11 and I feel bad because he's being such a good boy when I prick his ear. I think I need some type of soft treat, but needs to be save for feline diabetes.

Does he like tuna? Water packed human tuna would be okay for him. Just give him a few flakes at pokie time.

That is the only one I can think of right now, I'm sure others will have more ideas.

Well, I just posted on your other thread about giving him baby food chicken or turkey for his
recent dental, while his mouth heals.

You can freeze little dabs of that, un-haw a few each day and give as a treat on a small dish or the
tip of a spoon.

Karen has a great idea. I was thinking initially freeze-dried salmon or chicken, but that would be too hard on the mouth. The baby food should be perfect.

I suggest Gerber chicken & gravy, or turkey&gravy, go over real well with most cats and kittens. All they have is the meat and a little cornstarch -- no onion or garlic (dangerous for cats!)

As far as food for later on, I have Zollikins who is totally toothless due to stomatitis. She can eat canned food just fine, even Fancy Feast Chunky varieties. She also manages dry Evo perfectly well. I do have to shred chicken really finely for her though. And bits of sliced deli turkey? No problemo!

You can soak any freeze dried treat, evern freeze dried raw food, in water to rehydrate it and soften up the texture  Let it soak for 5 minutes or so in warm water. Then give to your cat, the softened treat and the now flavored water.

I can't afford treats so I just get a bag of frozen chicken breasts from Trader Joe's. Just boil it or steam it and you're good to go. I tried drumsticks and he wouldn't have any of it.

Beechnut baby food: chicken in chicken broth, turkey in turkey broth, beef in beef broth have zero carbs. My cat loves these.

Gerbers with cornstarch has carbs.

Other things: Beechcomber Sardines packed in water. Smoked oysters. American cheese.
