Need help - PMPS 118, shoot or stall?

Our Libre, which we have been using to monitor, errored and died earlier, and had been throwing very low numbers all day so I have no idea what his curve is or if he's on his way up. Haven't shot him this low before. PM shot due in a few minutes, gonna wait a bit for advice. Thank you

118 reading is from ReliOn

You’ve had some similar preshots around when you’ve checked with the Relion, how about shooting 0.25u and seeing how Owl does? I appreciate the Libre readings can be a bit overwhelming in terms of seeing patterns, but if I take your Relion +9 into consideration, Owl has stayed pretty flat. You could be having a wee bit of the 0.5u depot still influencing as well.

We are currently shooting .25u as of last night. Should I do the same tonight?

Bless his heart! What happened to his ears???
I dont know exactly, it happened before I adopted him. I do know he was rescued from an animal hoarding situation so presumably his ears were injured and not treated properly, resulting in collapse and a lot of scar tissue. It sure doesn't affect his hearing. He can hear the treat jar from a mile away 🙄

Aw, poor little fella. He's had a rough go of it. That makes him especially dear to me.

If the data from his Libre is accurate (in trends, if not numbers) he tends to dive quickly after his shot, and hit his lowest somewhere around +3ish. But I don't know how much to believe the Libre since it errored and stopped working today. I will feed and test again shortly.

Excellent, looks like he stayed true to the early nadir. I don’t know what you usually give for snacks in his feeder, but I don’t think you need to test anymore, and you can give him another snack now, or perhaps for +5 later.

He usually gets his usual Fancy Feast pate in his feeder. I can give him a bit more before I go to sleep here in a minute.

Thank you so much for helping me through that - I know he never went low but it's still nervewracking to see those numbers and to shoot when he's in a normal range. I really appreciate it.

Is there anything I can do to slow that drop in the beginning of his cycle when I shoot in the AM? Should I feed him a few additional mid-carb snacks at the +1 and +2 hour to help ease him down the way we did tonight? Or only do that if he's dropping quickly?

You’re welcome, happy to help :). You could try a little higher LC at +1 and +2. Early onsets and nadirs can definitely be nerve wracking, since you’re trying to get enough carbs to encourage a nice green surf.

Yes the 40s are from the failing libre. I don't trust any of the Libre readings from today. He was 85 at +2 and 100 at +9. Those are my only Relion readings today.
I have found many times if they linger for many hours in a low range (say 40s or Lo on the Libre) the Libre can shut down and stop working.
My theory is (unscientific, but what I have observed in using it for 3 years) the Libre, since designed for human use, must have a safety feature, and if it stays in that low range for numerous hours, the Libre must think it is defective and there must be an error. So it shuts itself down so that the human would install a new one.
You and I seem to have similar readings when our cats read in those 40s or 50s.
They are still safe and under 100 or in the 100s.

It makes it difficult when they get into those very low ranges while using a Libre and it errors and stops working.

Not everyone’s cat seems to read the way our cats do. What I mean is the range is closer between handheld meter and Libre.

So, it is good to be able to test your cat, as you know to make sure where they are.
And you are doing a great job in being able to do that with Owl, especially since you have to use his paw pad. 💝💕💓🍀🍀🍀

Nice start this morning ;). Looks like Owl decided to completely ditch the stinky pinkies.
Tested him again just now @ +1 and he's 224. I might have fed too many carbs this morning? He got half a can of the 13% FF at preshot and then I mixed half 13% and half 3% and fed him 1/4 can total of that mix at +1. Maybe that was too much. Instead of slowing the drop it bumped him up.

He is at 233 at +3 so not really much higher. A bit of a bounce? Maybe a bounce plus the higher carb food? I will get a few more tests in before I leave for work this afternoon. Hope he comes back down, those greens were so nice to see.
