There is a product called 'Glucotest' which may be added to litter. It indicates rough glucose levels. Glucose in the urine occurs when the renal threshold is exceeded (somewhere between 180-280 mg/dL, depending on data source and renal status).

Charms tested negative for ketones!!!!! thank you all, could not have done it with out all your help and support!
Used the method of locking him in a room . It was just me, Charms and the litter box. When he finally decided to go, I put the strip under him like you all instructed. Worked like a charm! Thank you! One less thing to worry about today. - Sam

Fantastic on getting your first ketone test! What was the reading?

You could note that ketone test on your SS, with what the reading was. None, trace, etc.

More than a trace of ketones is a concern. Charms may need fluids and a vet visit if that happens.

Hi Everyone, I thought I made a post letting everyone know that I was finally successful with the ketone testing, but again not sure what happened to it! Still having trouble figuring everything out here, even though Deb has given me so much help! Anyway, I am posting again because I wanted to make sure everyone knew that Charms tested negative! I used all of your advice, locked him in a room, me, Charms and the litter box. When he finally decided to go I just put the strip under him like you suggested and it worked. Thank You , could not have done it with out all your help.

Do not worry about your brain Deb, I did not realize my first post about ketones was on the second page! Thought it had disappeared! - Sam
Getting a lot of help on the Lantus forum , hopefully Charms numbers will start to go down soon. No purple in two days. But he does seem to be doing well, purring a lot and eating well.
