I have a friend who has a kitty with stage II CKD. She is trying to find out if it is safe to use Revolution topical parasiticide on him. Her vet says yes but she is not convinced. Anybody have any information on it? Thanks!

Couldn't find much. From Tanya's page:

Flea Medications
CRF cats are prone to anemia and fleas could increase the risk. Since fleas consume blood, contributing to anemia even in otherwise healthy cats, it would seem that the risk imposed by a flea infestation would be more serious to a CRF cat than any side effects from the use of flea-control medication. However, we recommend talking to your vet before using any flea-control products on your CRF cat.

The manufacturers of the flea product, Revolution, recommend not giving it to "sick, weak and underweight animals".

Our vet also said Revolution was safe for a CKD cat. We finished up sticking with Advantage 2 which they also agreed was safe and didn't see any issues from it for Rosa.

Thanks, I will pass this on to her. Her cat has terrible flea allergies and really needs some kind of effective treatment! :):):)

Revolution is topical flea treatment and really does not get into the cat's system and thus should be acceptable.
Thanks, Larry. That's pretty much what I would have thought, too. I don't think the selamectin has a direct impact on the kidneys, but don't know what it might affect systemically.
