NEED HELP! DOSE CORRECT?

2.5 certainly drops him 50% or more, which is a reasonable drop. I wonder if last night, he went lower than the blues you've seen during the day and then bounced back up to the 438 this morning. (A bounce is when his body perceives a lower blood glucose level than it is used to and releases extra glucose) In general, we suggest a new diabetic start at one unit. Then increase slowly as the numbers guide you.

Has he only been insulin for 2 days? What food is he eating?

I agree with Sue. It appears that a bounce happened to me. Is 2.5 the dose you started at?

hes been on insulin for 7 months. ive been using a glucometer for like a couple months.
he used to be on 4 units, but ever since switching him to fancy feast his glucose level
has been lower so i've been doing 3 units and recently just went down to 2.5units. hes been on FF for about 2 months. (:

Your amps today looks good. I'd continue with the 2 units for a few cycles and reevaluate. Any time you can, get a number in that 5-7 hour range so you can see how low he might be going.

I know it seems like a long time but that he is getting less insulin is a good sign. Are your FF the pate types? Staying under 8% or less sometimes can be a good way to get lower numbers.
