Hi everyone,
i have been using the Relion meter for a couple wks now. let me give you a quick background on what has been going on first real quick

simba has been sick the past wk. we went to the vet, gave him meds and he adjusted his insulin. we were doing 1 unit 2x a day. but since he has been sick and not eating well he said to do 1.5 units and once he was back to normal go up to 2 units. so i did. i gave him 2 units this morning. i give him shots at 7am and 7p. the vet wanted me to do midday readings due to the increase. so i did. this morning he was 270...which is the lowest he has been. the day prior he was 503 and then that night he was 367. that was just on the 1 unit.

anyway here is my concern. when i checked him this morning he was 270. i then ran out of strips, so i went to walmart got new ones. i just tested him a few min ago and the meter read 'hi'. i did another strip same thing.
the highest he has been is 503 and this 'hi' thing has me worried. do i need to be concerned and take him to the emergency room? or try again in a bit? and how long do i wait and/or how often should i keep testing him?

this has never happened and wasn't sure if this was normal b/c it was new strips or if there is truly an issue here. thanks
michelle and simba

i just tested myself and i was 90.

i tested simba again its been approx 45 min since i tested him and it STILL shows 'hi'.

what do i do????

I had the same thing on Jan 31. I think I ran 4 tests - they all came in "HI" - so I finally just went ahead and shot instead of hoping he'd come down to a readable number. Clearly he had stayed in the red all day, so I must've done a fur shot in the am. I shot 1.0, which is the max I've ever shot in 6 weeks, and he got some of the prettiest green numbers I've seen. If it was me, I'd treat the HI as a 500 and shoot my dose.

Good luck!

It sounds like the strips are ok. When did you test him? Before or after he ate? If afterwards, part of the high reading may be due to a food spike.
