Need good thoughts & prayers for my 18 yr old that needs....

Butchie's son, Maynard, is not feeling well. He is pawing at his mouth violently after trying to eat, so will not eat much anymore at all.

He had a trip to the vet today and his dental is tentatively scheduled for Friday. They gave him antibiotics and took blood and urine pre-anesthetic tests. Waiting for thyroid tomorrow, but doctor said so far, everything looks pretty good for an 18 yr old. He said his Creatinine was slightly high, but not bad for an 18 yr old. He said his urine looked good as well. I wish they could do the dental tomorrow since he is not eating now, so wouldn't need to have him fast :(

So, for the past few days, I have been syringe feeding him A/D with Clinicare right now just to get something into him. Vet said initial look into his mouth - he couldn't see much else but tartar, but Maynard is not one for sitting still AT ALL! He thinks maybe a cavity and that is why he gets so violent after trying to eat. I just hope it is not SCC all over again. grr_red

Best wishes for the dental - hoping is just a simple cavity and Maynard is well again soon.

Sending good dental vibes to Maynard...I know the worry, my Autumn goes in tomorrow for her dental. Hopefully it is just a nasty old cavity and they will get him all fixed up and back to eating his noms with relish very quickly.

Keep us posted on how he does, you know how we all worry even if it isn't one of our own babies, it always feels like it, so we will all be sending out Get well Soon vibes to Maynard.

I know Friday must seem an eternity away. At least you are getting some nutrition in him. Vandow had some mouth issues this summer. One tooth was pulled and it really helped him. Paws crossed.

Many good thoughts and extra prayers for Maynard...Hope he has a good dental and feels better right away.
since tomorrow is wednesday and he's having trouble eating...
maybe tomorrow would be a good day to get some babyfood - or even make some yourself....
since he doesn't get to eat before his surgery...
i'd be making good on trying to get him some extra nutrition tomorrow and thursday in the day time so it won't be so hard to fast.....

I feel so bad for him when i force him to eat, he paws and paws and cries. I have resorted to putting little booties on his paws, so he doesn't make his face bleed :cry: He ABSOLUTELY hates that

Aw... I wish there was something he could lick up ... get some nutrition....

Was your vet already scheduled fully for tomorrow morning? I saw someone else who was waiting and just got his surgery bumped up
because the circumstances were worsening...
Doesn't hurt to call and ask...
you already have the friday appt.... but maybe they'd re-arrange and do it sooner....
if he's not eating much, he's probably not drinking much and he could get dehydrated....

Aww - big hugs and good dental vines coming your way :YMHUG: It's so hard when our furry friends are having such a rough time. Hope everything goes well.

Awwwww poor lil Maynard. Sending positives and prayers. This must be so stressful. Poor kitty kitty.

Maynard is finished with dental!!! NO SCC FOUND!

Dr said his 2 big teeth in front were abscessed and infected way down inside the root!! nailbite_smile He said he could understand why he was in so much pain!

He gave him antibiotics and pain shot while under and will be sending him home with pain meds and the collar of shame :roll:

He said he will be in alot of pain for a couple days and the pain meds may knock him out. He said that he needs to rest and hopefully, in a few days will be better. He said he actually flinched WHILE UNDER ANESTHETIC when he was touching these teeth!!!!! He said that hardly ever happens. (My question would be does this mean it is really, really painful..........or did the doctor not give him enough anesthetic? I thought maybe because he is 18 that he went light on the anesthetic?)

ANYWAYS..........Maynard is going to really, really hate my hubby and I for doing this to him. He, unfortunately, will not understand that in a few days, he will be feeling much better. He is such a sensitive guy that I need to make sure that he pulls through this and doesn't give up. He may be at his breaking point! :( :( :(

so glad to hear it all went well and Maynard is okay and will soon be much better.

I'm not understanding why he needs a cone...
Mine didn't when she had 8 teeth pulled...

he is still pawing at his face. he wants the rawness on his face to heal. also, i guess he doesn't want him to mess with the stitches?

Paws crossed that he heals quickly and can get out of the cone....
He must have stitches that are too accessible to paws...

Awwwwwww Ceil...Poor lil Maynard. Sending prayers for quick healing for Maynard AND Mama and Papabeans...
