Hopefully I catch all questions -

His fasting BG is what it is, you don't have much control over it. We focus on nadir - the lowest BG of the cycle. On Caninsulin, we want that above 90 (ideally 90-120). Eventually the hope is that his BG is almost always in the 200s or less, even better would be 100s - but this is often difficult to achieve with Caninsulin.

Leaving home - yes, absolutely! The beginning is a little tricky trying to learn his trends and find the right dose, but after that you get a better handle. Most of us tend to test a little bit before we leave the house, and then depending on that result you know if you maybe need to leave higher carbs out for him, or if he'll be ok. Or if you know ahead of time you need to leave, yes you also adjust the dose depending. We can help with all this.

Eggs yes, but I would stick to egg whites if possible. Milk I would say no because it tends to have quite a bit of sugar in it.

Torn skin - unfortunately I'm not sure how long that may take.

Prolonging life - truly the wet diet is best, and getting his diabetes as regulated as possible. Diabetic cats do tend to also develop kidney issues later, so a lot of us proactively feed lower phosphorus foods - but worry about that later as her phosphorus is fine for the moment. A lot of us also tend to give probiotics - Proviable and Visbiome being two of the more popular ones.

Weight - he will need.more than the two cans you are giving to gain a bit of weight back. Some of us are lucky and can free feed and they'll stop when they need to, but other cats don't have that "off button". You can try letting him eat what he wants and see how he does, my guess is 2.5-3 cans is what he needs calorie-wise. Just watch out for scarf and barf, or weight gain that's too fast.

Labs - BUN and creatinine are high, did the vet have anything to say about that? Calcium is also a smidge high so another reason to avoid the milk/cheese, etc.

Automatic feeder - I've always left wet food, without an ice pack, and it's been fine. But you can always get one with the ice pack,.or some people refrigerate it ahead of time

I'll edit with dose advice in a minute...

It's a little hard to tell what number you can shoot. Let's see how tonight goes shooting the 315. Cecile is right that normally we say above 200, but in this case I don't think the dose is quite right enough to do that. I suspect it's more like 250-300, at this dose anyway. It's a bit of cat and mouse at first trying to find the dose you can shoot.

I need a prescription for Lantus Pen but I can get the syringe at the pharmacy. mom is also diabetic and uses the same thing

Does your mom get a new insulin pen monthly with her insurance? Does she use her pen up completely before she gets a new one? If she has insulin left, you can use the rest of the insulin with your cat. Insulin rules for humans is not to use after 30 days, but if stored properly you can use it with your cat to save money.
