My GSD is a fecalphiliac aka poop muncher. She gets "treats" to stop her from eating her own feces. I could use some assistance on how to handle the cats. It's worse when they are eating canned food. There is more waste and it smells. It isn't so bad when they are eating raw, probably because waste and smell decrease tremendously. Just not as tasty and juicy, I suppose. I've heard MSG can be put in cat food which will make the feces taste bad. It is in one of the brands I've used on the dog. Does anyone know if MSG is safe for cats, diabetic cats in particular? Also a dose? Paisley is currently on insulin. Barry has been OTJ for several years (Yay!!). Willow has no known health problems. In the meantime, I'm going to try a baby gate, although I'm concerned someone could be injured. Probably me. :/ It can't be a permanent solution, though. There is no other place to put the boxes that would be out of her reach.
Some people have said she might be missing some nutrients. The food she eats is mostly premium on clearance at the pet store because it's short-dated. She gets vitamins, treats and bones (both raw and reputable brands like Merricks). Bottom line is that I don't think it's her diet. If anyone has any thoughts on why she is doing this or how to stop it, please feel free to let me know because this is frustrating and disgusting.
I will be calling the vet, but they don't have the experience with diabetic cats that you have here. Yes, it pisses them off that I am more likely to listen to people on the internet than I am to them. It would help if what they recommend was logical.
