I everyone I talked about this in off topic but I need some advise, it's a long story but there are two cats outside we feed. There is a hurricane coming so we need to get them inside. I called the vet for a dewormer , (the yellow liquid) only to find out they want 34 dollars for each dose which is outrageous, they have no mercy. You can probably buy a whole bottle for that. We would buy it in a emergency but even if we did there is a chance they would not eat it on the first try so we would need mutable doses and I am sure the vet would charge for each one even though they are rescue cats. Anyway I found this dewormer online, it's says it for people but can be used in pets. Has anyone here used this before?

Most vets carry the Drontal. If you have a feed store or Tractor Supply nearby they often carry Paziquantal pills which get tapes. There's also Profender which goes on the back of the neck like advantage. It's expensive, but so easy to use and gets all worms. You need to get it from a vet or get a prescription for it and order online. If they have fleas I would be more worried about getting rid of those. Remember you will be stuck inside until the storm passes, and having fleas will make that even more miserable. When the storm's over you can get them all wormed

The vet said we should use Revolution but I don't see how that can take care of parasites if they have them now. I think they just don't want to give a discount on the dewormer.

Revolution is a good product, but it doesn't get tapeworms either. If the cats have fleas they probably have tapeworms. I'm not sure if there's a liquid wormer that gets tapes.

I don't think so either, so I guess we will just get the drontel and put it in tuna, I think I can flea comb out all the fleas, I've done that before.

Capstar is good for killing fleas fast. Your vet should have it since you need it quickly.
We will try to get it tomorrow but I think the vet will be closed but I could always flea comb them until I can get it. I made a attempt to close then in on our closed in porch but one ran out so I will have to try again until I get them both. I guess they don't like the idea of being locked in. I shouldn't have opened the door so fast. I'm a little freaked out about not getting them yet but if I have to try all night I will.

Have you been able to catch them?
Not yet , thanks for asking, we are watching for them to come in the porch, I have the window open that's where they come in to eat, there is no scene, it's kinda like a doggie door. I put a lot of catnip on the other side of the porch which should give me enough time to get to the window and shut it once they come in. The wind is not supposed to pick up until later so they should be here by then. We still have power but it might go out, so I will update as soon as I can. God bless.

Hi everyone, thank you for the prayers. We made it through, thank God it didn't hit. We did lose power for a day so we lost the vial I was keep just in case, it was old and I wasn't sure it was still working anyway. One brother came in the morning before we got the all clear for the hurricane , we were scared so I tried to just get him in the house and then I could get the other one by leaving the window open but he would come in the house, I didn't want to lock him in the porch with out his brother and lose one because I know they love each other and wouldn't want me to just save one and not the other. So we waited for both to come. But thank God we got the all clear so we didn't lock them in. We are going to soon, I am ordering the liquid dewormer online. We thought we had a plan, if the hurricane comes call the vet for a dewormer and let them in, we were naĂŻve in thinking the vet wouldn't charge a lot for a small dose of liquid dewormer. We were wrong big time, they wanted 34 dollars a piece and we would have to spend that but if they didn't take it and we needed more to try again there is no way we could afford another 2 doses. But all is well that ends well. We shouldn't' t have put off letting them in for so long, but we made temporary peace with a neighbor who we thought would bother them so we put it off but we learned our lesson ,we will always have a dewormer in the house because you never know when you need to let a cat inside. Hope everyone here in the path got through it ok. I feel bad for the people in Haiti, wish there was something i could do. Prayers fo Haiti.

Hi Elena, Glad you're ok! Now you can work on getting those boys inside. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks, we will get on it ASAP. At least now I can scrub down the porch with alcohol before we let them in. Sometimes raccoons come in to eat and we have nothing against raccoons we love all animals but we have to clean up the porch. God bless.

Pleased and relieved to hear that you're all safe, Elena. :bighug:

For future reference, have a look online for Frio insulin pouches. They keep insulin cool without any need for electricity. (You simply soak the pouch in water and it cools through evaporation.)

Thank you so much, I will have to get one in the future, especially if we get another vial someday. God bless. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Glad it didn't hit you Elena. Suggestion - use vinegar/water (cup vinegar to gal water) to clean instead of alcohol, it will also kill germs and is easier on your body and anything you're cleaning.

You said 'the yellow wormer' - Nemex? $34/dose? I buy it by the 4 oz bottle for $15 from my vet - that's just highway robbery, period! I'm tempted to get some for you here - would be cheaper to pay shipping than that!

Thanks, you so sweet but we already ordered it from Revival animal health. The one our vets want 34 dollars for is the yellow one (Pyrantel Pamoate) which is the same as the one Revival has for 15.19 on sale for a 16oz bottle. This vets office makes me sick, I wish we didn't have to go there anymore but they are the only ones around us that have the DM. I did see Nemex online at Revival, I think , does it work well? Vinegar is a good idea, I will be sure to use it. God bless.

Nemex IS Pyrantel Pamoate...Nemex is just a brand name. I use Nemex about every 3 months for parasites in all 13 dogs and 10 cats. I also use Advantage II Flea/Tick but sometimes it just doesn't seem to get them all. Would love to see pics of your 'porch kitties'! :)

Have a wonderful day!

I have pics of the porch kitties and the raccoon mommy we feed, if some can tell me how to post them I will, all I see is a way to post a link to a url , I don't see how to post the pictures. You have a lot of fur babies , God bless you.

I couldn't find a way to post a pic so I have a youtube cannel where I plan on posting my art but I just uploaded pics of our porch kitties and our raccoon mommy is at the end of the video. And our neighbors cat who comes to eat is also in the video pic. We have an old hospital bed on the porch ,the cats sleep on it in the winter, we put out a box but sometimes possums sleep in it as you can see. We have been taking care of them for years since the neighbor left them behind when he moved. We feed anything that comes to our door. We are big time animal lovers. Here is the link to my channel

So we got our dewormer , including shipping it was 27 dollars. It has over 400 ml which should be more than 300 doses. Our vet wanted 37 dollars for one dose. How in the world do these vets get away with this. I haven't need a dewormer for a rescue in a while but at another vet years ago I don't remember paying that much. I am going to tell them something next time we go in for food.
