Hello, everyone. It looks like my blood sugar levels have stabilized, and they're consistently between 200 and 300. We had that incident where my human was worried, but since then, we are seeing pretty much nothing but yellow readings. The one that was outside of that range was barely pink.

My human is wondering if he should just go with what I am getting now and live with it, since the readings are staying below that evil 300 level. Or should he try one more small dose increase and see what happens.

I'm getting a lot of insulin at this point so he is wondering if we may not have reached a point of diminishing returns.

What do you kind humans think?

It would look like he could use an increase but I can't tell because I don't see very many mid cycle tests.
If you are gone all day to work, could you get some mid cycle tests for a few nights in a row? With that information, then we could see how low he is going on his current dose and know whether it is safe to raise it or not.

My human generally gets mid-cycle tests on the weekends when he is around. He knows it is only two days out of the week but is that enough?

At least based on pre-shot data, Bagheera's numbers are over renal threshold. This means there is increased risk for kidney and other end organ damage. It would be better if numbers were consistently under 200 if you are aiming for better regulation.

Two tests per day are insufficient. Lantus dosing is based on the nadir. You need to get additional tests, at minimum, in the PM cycle, in order to insure that your cat's numbers aren't tanking and, because you're not testing, that your not missing the low numbers.

Ordinarily, when we see that a cat is over 6.0u, we suggest that you test for a high dose condition. The link I provided has information about the various high dose conditions and about testing. The only place in the country where you can get testing for acromegaly and insulin resistance (insulin auto-antibodies) is at Michigan State.
