My name is Ashley and I have a 14 yr old diabetic rescue. I've only had him for about 2 1/2yr. We love him to pieces he was seen by the vet bc of a dental infection on Friday his big has been very high and I am unable to bring it down he is scheduled to have surgery next week. He is on Clindamycin for 10 days but his kidneys are enlarged 50 % on both sides. He is currently on 2 units of Novolin. Has any one had any experience with enlarged kidneys with their diabetic? I've also attached his blood test results. Is their anything I can do for my boy ?

Welcome
The slightly low % lymphocytes and borderline low absolute lymphocytes is consistent with an infection.
The BUN is high but that is normal for a high protein diet which you should be feeding a dietetic cats. A better indicator is Creatitine which is mid-band. A better indicator is urine specific gravity.
What BGs are you getting at various times?
What are you feeding?

He is currently being fed 3/4 canned low card diet. He doesn't get any kibble. He is on the friskies pate only eats chefs dinner and seafood supreme. He is anywhere between 14 and 25 at different times of the day.

Yikes that is high - but that will be reflective of the dental issues too. It can be very difficult to bring the numbers down when there is infection going on.

Sorry I don't know about enlarged kidneys. You might want to edit your subject line to specify enlarged kidneys to catch the eyes of someone that does.

Enlargement of internal organs may be a sign of other conditions. How much does he weight? What is his ideal weight?

I would love to do a curve on my boy but he is very ill right now dont want to stress him anymore then I have to. Tiggy weight about 12 pounds he isnt overweight and his vet was not concerned at all with his weight. The enlarged kidneys is a recent sysptom and im hoping will go away but have not found anybody with similar experience he is scheduled to undergo dental but am very worried at this point for him next week.

With enlarged kidneys, I was wondering about acromegaly, though his weight isn't particularly high, that's all.

Sorry about the other post I was trying to edit the title of this one and could not. I haven't come here a lot. Is their anyway I could take that down? Before Tigger came to the shelter I had been working at he was a big cat. His thyroid was tested and their is nothing wrong with it. The vet said his white blood count is good but he does have a lump in each ear which aren't cancerous. He isn't drinking an abnormal amount of water he still has an appetite. He seems to be very happy even tho he is extremely slow and does not want to move around to much. Some days are better then others as lof last month he could jump onto the counter now he doesn't do this anymore and when he tries he ends up missing. He looks very bloated because of the enlarged kidneys. The vet wasn't very sure what was causing this but did mention that he could be a cat that will need antibiotics on and off for the rest of his life. I will look up acromegaly and see what it has to say about this.

Hi,

You can edit the title of your thread by going up to the top right hand corner of the first message and clicking on 'thread tools'; that will give you the option to 'edit title'.

(I don't know if it's possible to delete a thread any more...)
