i have a diabetic cat (monster) we have been trying to feed the fancy feast he didnt eat it so we have been feeding regular can food. He has another check tomorrow we are still trying to figure out his dose. I am going to get a meter so i can test at home. his levels have been all over the place and i am guessing because of his food. any advice would be appreciated

Check the food chart. I have a link in my signature. Pick foods under 10 percent carb (under 7 is even better)

It may take a few tries to find a substitute food Monster will like, but if you keep at it, something low carb will appeal to him. High blood sugar may actually make it easier to switch -- it tends to make them hungry. I had tried several times to switch Pants to a new food over the years when she was healthy, and she refused to switch until the diabetes made her hungry enough to try something different.

thank you everyone i am going to try to switch to merricks someone mentioned this food

My Coco eats Merricks duck and turkey pate. She won't touch their limited ingredient selections or the chicken pate (she's a picky diva)! I'll admit her numbers dropped significantly after changing her to Merrick's. Best of luck finding something Monster enjoys!

can someone point me in the right direction for the flow chart we are getting our own meter tomorrow

Do you mean the spreadsheet to enter the BG values and the insulin shot times/dosage?
Here is the link to the area on the instructions and understanding the grid. The second and third "stickies"
SPREADSHEET
Please also create your signature so that Monster's pertinent info is available when you post. You can then link the spreadsheet to the signature and all the info will be right there for advising members. SIGNATURE
I'm so glad you are going to be home testing soon, then you will be able to see how the insulin, and the diet change, is affecting Monster. Let us know if you need some tips or any other info about home testing, or in setting up the spreadsheet.:cat:
