Need advice on different insulin glargine brands

In less than a couple weeks I will be adopting a new sugar kitty, Bandit. He was posted on the Feline Diabetes and DCIN Facebook sites.

Currently he is on Vetsulin. I already have an appointment set up with my vet and plan to switch insulins. It has been several years since I have had a diabetic cat and used Lantus at that time.

I would like to get some feedback from anyone that has used Semglee, Basaglar and Toujeo to find out how well these versions of insulin glargine work for your kitties. I am planning on ordering my insulin from Marks Marine to save money. From what I can find online, it seems that there is very little difference between these brands, but would like to hear from members that are using them for your cats. Especially if you have switched from Lantus to one of these other brands.

Thanks

Congrats on new addition. Can't wait to see a phito. I have no idea on the insulin except basaglar was being used for lantus shortage.

Toujeo is a U300 insulin, so not the same as Lantus which is a U100 insulin. It is more concentrated. There were some good recent discussions and points on Toujeo, see this post https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/re-toujeo-insulin-pens-libre.245467/#post-2771996

It also contains a few other links, but I liked Sienne's summary on post #20.

I don't believe you'll see any difference in experience with Semglee or Basalgar, we've had a few folks use those brands, they are just manufactured by different companies than Lantus.

Tagging @Chris & China (GA) who switched to Basaglar for an experiment, before switching back to Lantus. China was tightly regulated so a good example to see if there was any difference. There wasn't. We have a few caregivers here using Basaglar with no difference from Lantus.

Side bar: I saw a post from someone saying Marks was having temporary Lantus supply issues. In the province of BC where Marks is (35 minutes drive from me), the government system now pays for Basaglar, but not Lantus without a special note from the doctor. Meaning there is less demand for Lantus in the province and possibly less even supply.

I've see just one spreadsheet from a cat intentionally on Toujeo, and it was a high dose cat. The one unintentionally on it was, luckily, also a high dose cat that got donated insulin (caregiver didn't notice it was Toujeo) for a foster, and suddenly got a lot better numbers and even earning reduction. Probably cause the cat was on 3 times the dose.
