Hello LL! (Tiki says MEOW to everyone too.)

Was wondering if anyone had any advice about the carb levels I should feed now that Tiki is OTJ. There's so many great topics and stickies about how to get here (OTJ) but are there any for once you arrive?

I have been feeding Tiki FF classics and he has always been happy with them but every now and then he gets fussy (I suppose I would too if I got the same thing every day, altho he ate the same dry food for years and years with no fussing...weird). So I was wondering if I could branch out with some other flavors but how high on the carb levels is too high?

I've been experimenting with that myself lately. Is Tiki fairly carb sensitive? Since he is newly OTJ, I would be as kind to his pancreas as you can be, keeping the carbs low. If you occasionally feed something higher carb, test a few hours later and see what happens.

Lucy recently got picky and I have been able to get away with 9%-11% carbs, but I would be careful about trying that with a cat that hasn't been off insulin very long. We've seen cats come back with less than that, so every cat is different for sure.

I've been bouncing back and forth between the chicken(5) and turkey classics(4) (he doesn't like fish or beef). There are days where he will gobble them down (like today) where he seems like he is starving and other days he barely touches them. I thought if I could give him some other flavors he might not be so fussy.

ALSO - I have a whole case of Gravy Lovers (for those times when he BG's would drop on insulin) which I can't even find a list where it actually tells me the carb count for those and was wondering if I could feed him these or if they are going to go to waste.

I know - ECID! lol

i'd just be cautious - mostly based upon celi/binks' experience. binks was brought out of remission because his petsitter gave him higher carb food to get him to eat. then it took celi a few more months here before he went back into remission.

if it were me, i'd stick to LC.

What Julie said!!!!!!!

Binks has two flavors that he gets...boring, perhaps- but it's partly his choice and partly my being so gun shy after his relapse.

He eats friskies senior turkey & giblets pate 7%,
but mostly wellness turkey 4%.

I was traveling intermittently last year, and he put up a little fuss about eating, so my nephew gave him kibble, people foods,
and any canned with gravy in it...and he was back on insulin within about a month.
