Please can someone give us advice on the food we should buy for our baby Salem he's a 17 lb 11.5 yr old kitty. His level was at 381 and they are saying we need prozinc. They didn't mention much about diet but after reading here we see that diet can be helpful as well as self monitoring. We need to replace his food right away please help us!

Hi and welcome

It is great that you changing food before you start the prozinc. Ideally don't change in one sudden change tonight but do it slowly over a number of days-25% per day.

This chart lists food that are low carb. You need one that has less than 10% of calories from carbs. Many in the US use Friskies or fancy feasts but not all are suitable.

Hello cat lady

I see you are new here too. It would be great if you could start up a thread introducing yourself and your kitty so people can say hi. :)

Thank you all. They were saying to get prescription food, but after reading here it seems that it is a more expensive unnecessary option. We have a newborn at home so saving a little where we can is important. .. As long as it is still a great choice to help our kitty!

No, we just were diagnosed yesterday. .. they made us feel a little hopeless at the vet... they said prescription food was basically our only option, but after researching I see that's not the case.

Hi Jose and Julia and welcome to the message board.

I feed my diabetic cat Wink the Friskies Special Diet pates, Fancy Feast pates, Friskies regular pate style foods but avoid the Mixed Grill flavor because it's a bit higher in carbs.

There are lots of choices.

If you do not live in the USA, we can give you other choices for various places in the world.
