Friend has a newly diagnosed diabetic cat and somewhat limited internet access. I've told her about here, and she's read up on stuff and is trying to do all the right things but the numbers aren't good yet and her vet's only suggestions are to pay for them to curve the cat, to feed the cat Purina DM and to keep raising the insulin dose over and over (often weekly). Recently prescribed 5 units up from 4 last week, 3 the week before. I forget which insulin, not Lantus so I've been loathe to make specific recommendations on dose because I'm not familiar with it, and to do so would be wrong. I think however its time to see if she can find a vet that has more experience with Diabetes.
She lives in Upper Black Eddy which is in Bucks County near Doylestown. She is also near Hunterdon County in New Jersey near Flemington.
If any members have a personal recommendation for a good vet in those areas or within say 1 hour who have experience successfully treating FD using the methods we believe in here (wet food, possibly Lantus, home testing with human meter, owner involvement) I would very much appreciate knowing. You can PM me or post here. The owner of the cat loves her cat very much and wants to keep him and treat him, although she has the same financial limitations and time contraints (work schedules) that many of us here have to face.
